When you hear the names Gruffy and Scruffy do you think good guys are bad guys?

I am writing comics about streetfighting cats and dogs. What type of characters spring to mind when you hear the (nick)names Gruffy and Scruffy?

From OED 2nd Edition:

Scruffy:

Shabby, mean, dirty; slovenly, messy, untidy. Also Comb., as scruffy-looking adj.

Gruffy:

A nickname for a gruff person, a ‘cross patch’.

From urbandictionary.com:

scruffy -
slang for an unusually attractive male, with slight facial hair

scruffy -
a guy that will pound you into the ground.

I am curious - please help

@JGoldman10,
just my opinion, but...

they sound gay.

(not that there is anything wrong with that...)

especially with all the unusually attractive males.

and cross patches.

@Rockhead,
This is what the title should have been:

When you hear the names Gruffy and Scruffy do you think good guys OR bad guys?

I botched this thread up. let me rephrase the title question:

When you hear the names Gruffy and Scruffy do you think heroes or villains?

I am curious - BETWEEN GRUFFY AND SCRUFFY I need to know what side these characters should be on. Please help.

I went elsewhere and got these responses:

1. Villains

2. I think of ''kids''

3. Gruffy: Villian
Scruffy: Hero

No idea why.

4. Neither. I think of comedic bumbling sidekicks.

5. They sound more like dogs but i guess heros

6. I think dogs.

7. This might not be what you want to hear, but these names remind me of my childhood when the D.A.R.E officers came to school and talked to us about McGruff! I would say they sound good as the names of tough on crime, edgy heroes.

8. Villain
Why do villains have to ugly?

9. Somewhat chaotic heroes,but heroes nonetheless.

I like the last response the best.
