When you hear the names Gruffy and Scruffy do you think good guys are bad guys?

Um...Rock Hudson was gay, you do know that don't you?

Anyway, to answer your question, when I hear the names Gruffy and Scruffy and I don't think of either good or bad guys, villians or heros.

The first thing I think of is Snuffy Smith.

A cartoon character I never liked, not because of the name, just because it was not funny to me.

When I hear Gruffy and Scruffy, I think of dogs names, owned by people who couldn't bother to think up anything better.

There was a cartoon, I don't know when, that had a duck named Wade.
Now that's clever.

Gruffy and Scruffy sounds like a tandem of village drunks from the 1950s.

@Gargamel,
Yeah.
Who ever pictures a cat with names like that? Not me.

I think a good name for a tough/bad cat would be Jules or Vincent.

They could say things like "I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?" or "You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in France?"

That would be cool.

@chai2,
Don't expect him to pick up on that reference. Goldie relates to cartoons.

@JGoldman10,
They sound like the two dwarfs Snow White and the other dwarfs were ashamed off.
The family secret, probably kept them in the attic. They just didn't measure up to the Disney standard.

@JGoldman10,
I envision some good guys - like cops that are disheveled - remember the show Columbo - like some one like him.

I still say Jules would be a great name for a villian cat.

So, your MO is asking the same question until you get the answer you already have formulated in your head?

I know they're cats. Most people, including me, don't think gruffy and scruffy are good names.

I vote for Jules for the bad cat, and Vern for the good one.

No, read Linkat's post:

That's what I was agreeing with. Jules and Vern doesn't fit with the theme of my main hero.

@chai2,
Is this geared toward children - then the gruffy scruffy names could be ok. Kinda cute for little kids. But if these is geared towards an older audience - tweens on up -

".. Jules for the bad cat, and Vern for the good one."

would work better. More unusual and a bit funny - I like Vern - kinda gives you an imagine of a happy easy going bumbling type character.

Yes, exactly. That what you are agreeing with as far as what linkat said, is what you've thought all along.
It sounds like you've just been waiting for one person to agree with you, to validate your feelings.

You like an idea. Let's say 50 people in a row say they don't like it, and you just keep asking. Finally 1 person agrees with you, and everyone elses opinion can just go to hell in a handbasket because you finally got the answer you want.

So, why do you keep asking for input goldman? You don't pay any attention to what anyone says, until it's someone that agrees with your original idea.
The object of asking others opinions is to get fresh points of view, maybe new ideas.

You obviously have like the names Gruffy and Scruffy from square one, just just go with that.

BTW, the Jules & Vern(e) thing? Which rockhead got, but went over your head?
Jules Verne was a famous writer of science fiction, who wrote, among other things "Journey to the Center of the Earth" "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Around the World in 80 Days"

See, using names like that for the good/bad characters would appeal to kids smart enough to connect the dots. Like a duck named "Wade" or a bea named "Buzz"
Personally, when I was a kid, I would have thought Scruffy and Gruffy sounded dumb.

But you're already made up your mind, and someone agreed with you, so go ahead.
