@hawkeye10,
It's beyond their words; they are out to destroy the economies of many countries - including their own. That's beyond reasonable or acceptable behavior in congress which is meant to negotiate and compromise on issues. Not to bankrupt this country with foolishness and demands that are impossible to meet in a couple of weeks.

@H2O MAN,
Gee, that sure looks like the recession was well under way long before Obama even took the oath of office. Hmmm...who was President during all that time? Wasn't it George Bush? Rolling Eyes

@firefly,
Have you ever heard of Frank, Dodd, Pelosi and Reid?
Did you know they were busy screwing things up for Americans two full years before Obama took office?
Hmmm... what party do the four mentioned above belong to? Is it the democrat party? Rolling Eyes

Right now, I am more interested in what the Dow will look like Monday and Tuesday, as a result of all the uncertainty over a debt ceiling bill.

And, if we don't have a bill passed by the Tuesday deadline, I'm not sure I want to see what the Dow will look like on Wednesday.

@JPB,
As I understand this rather fluid situation, the House voted this afternoon to defeat the Reid plan in the Senate before it even got approved there. McConnell and Reid will try again to get some kind of compromise through the Senate late tonight and to a vote in the House, perhaps tomorrow.
I am not confident that Boehner has control over his own party at this point.

@firefly,
firefly, I'm expecting that without any agreement, we'll see about a 10% drop in the DOW next week. It's going to have a destabilizing effect on world markets and economy, because most people understand that the cost of everything will increase.

The current fragile economy in Europe and the US will be exposed, and any solution for further recovery will be unsuccessful.

I call this real terrorism by the gang of 87 in the US.

Does that include in the event that Obama ignores the debt ceiling and orders the treasury to sell bonds?

The way I am reading the reports it looks like the GOP is ignoring Reid, they are negotiating with Obama, and you know how that tends to go.

Doesn't matter what extraneous actions Obama or congress takes after no deal on the debt ceiling.

@cicerone imposter,
Read some international coverage. Summary: What a luxury that the USA can cause an international crisis. It's important to remember that the effect of this doesn't stop at our borders.

I'm for the one page bill. If the GOP wants to have a fight about the budget, let them do that come budget time, not bill time. It doesn't matter that you don't approve of a $6.00 milkshake, you don't get to choose to give the soda jerk $3.00. You pay what you owe.

Until the GOP accepts that revenues are a part of the solution, they aren't serious. Debt climb correlates with tax slashing, not the spending mythology that the GOP sells to the public.

@failures art,
It's a simple concept that many conservatives don't understand.

We're trying to pay what happens to be most of GW Bush's deficit spending-increase in our debt- now with the debt ceiling, but the newbies don't understand how US politics works.

They're trying to do major surgery without understanding all the ramifications of their attempts to cut out the heart before finding what the real ailment is that will result in the patient dying.

They don't have a clue, because they are new to national politics.

We all know about how power corrupts; we're seeing it now. The tail is wagging the GOP dogs.
