Hi. So, Week #13 is coming up shortly, with 9 early games to accompany the Thursday night thing.
We are starting to flag a bit as the season winds down.
Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.

Jim McMahon says he is ready to suit up if the Texans need him.

@realjohnboy,
Oh, I misunderstood. You were talking about today's matches? No problem. I thought you were starting reminders about the picks for next week.

@realjohnboy,
John--will you edit your new signature line so that "hat" becomes "hot". I don't care for a typo of mine being carried as long as that one might be. I'm assuming it was my typo rather than yours which is a measure of my graciousness don't you think?

@spendius,
"Hat" make as much sense as "hot".

@realjohnboy,
Interesting - I can only find ten complete games at the moment. Have you been consulting the Oracle again?

@realjohnboy,
And so, of those 10 games, CR, Beth, and RP picked 10 correctly and 3 incorrectly?

I'm so confused.

@Ticomaya,
My fingers and brain don't always get along. 7-3.
A bunch of folks at 6-4.
Thank you for pointing out that I am too bright.

@CowDoc,
Indeed. Some fine games today.
We all are going with the Saints tonight.
If I have this right, it will come down to the Monday night game to determine the winner this week. CoastalRat, Edgar, Tico and Region are picking San Diego.
Andyclubber and EhBeth are going with Jacksonville.
The rest of us are not in contention.

@realjohnboy,

Standings after 12 weeks of this silliness.

rjb confirms Veblen's view expressed thus--

Quote:
There is a feeling----usually vague and not commonly avowed in so many words by the apologist himself, but ordinarily perceptible in the manner of his discourse----that these sports, as well as the general range of predaceous impulses and habits of thought which underlie the sporting character, do not altogether commend themselves to common sense.

Chapter 10: Modern Survivals of Prowess. The Theory of the Leisure Class.

The theory is that the Leisure Class encourages predatory impulses in the population as one of the props of its existence.

The terminology employed in football, all versions, is suffused with predatory expressions and images. The Red Zone for example. Misogyny is rife.

@spendius,
What is happening in a TV coverage of NFL, and it is rather striking, is that the propensity for the barbarian virtues of ferocity and cunning is being held up as admirable and gratifying.

Sure enough, there is a five-way tie for 1st place in this week's race with just the game between San Diego and Jacksonville to go. CoastalRat is 11-4 and says SD will win 27-20. Edgar (39-17), Tico (28-17) and Region (34-24) also have SD.
AndyClubber (14-10) and EhBeth (27-21) pick Jax.
