She will meow really loud once in a while so I'm worried about that

It might be that she's confused, doesn't know where she is for a moment.
Lulu did that too. I'd say something to her, she'd turn her head and see I was there, and quiet right down.

Feeling so sorry for your girls.

@chai2,
Well - as I was getting to leave, my husband called. Kitty is not coming home.

At this point she is in a coma and her heart is barely beating.

She has been my baby and I've known her longer than my husband and children.

@Linkat,
I'm so sorry, Linkat. This is a hard thing to go through. Try to remember the good times. When you're ready, we'd love to see a picture of her.

@Linkat,
I am so sorry. It's obvious how much you loved her. You not wanting her to suffer makes that so clear. Bless you and your family.

I echo the sentiments of chai here. Having a pet near the end is certainly never easy to go through at all, even though she's lived a long life.

So sorry to hear.

@Linkat,
Very sad news, Linkat.
I'm so sorry to hear it.
My sympathy to all of you, especially to your children.
It sounds like this loved elderly critter has been a good friend to them all of their lives.

I'd post one of those cheezy poems for you but I know it doesn't help. This is never easy.

@Linkat,
What's her status now? I have a 19 year old kittie. At Christmas we were ready to put her down...eye discharge, not eating. Vet did a blood test and she had a bacterial infection. We gave her antibiotics and she came back. If your baby dies, be comforted by the fact that you gave her the best possible life. And you didn't let her suffer. It doesn't mean you'll be any less sad. Take care.

@Eva,
This isn't her - but looks alot like her. If I would to wait until I can find a picture to download, it would take for ever. I am technologically challenged in that area.

@mags314772,
At the vet she was unresponsive. Basically her body shutting down. She didn't even move when touched and her eyes were open even though not physically responding. Her heart beat was extremely faint and slow.

They recommended either putting her to sleep or allowing her body to just shut down.

My little one cried and cried. My older one just hugged me and held on. The little claimed this morning that she was the last one to hear her meow.

My grandmother just recently passed away. We envision them together with Lily on her lap - Lily did like to "visit" her lap when grandmom was visiting.

@Linkat,
I am so sorry, Linkat. Us animal lovers know all too well how you're feeling right now, for having gone through the same sorrow, not only once but several times with our beloved pets. It's especially hard on children - I remember when our Max passed on, my daughter was just heartbroken and inconsolable for quite some time.
Luckily, you have another cat and a dog to band aid the pain a little bit.
It's never easy though.....
