Over Bentley's objections, Golden Dragon plant votes for union
Source: Montgomery Advertiser

Brian Lyman,

Workers at a Wilcox County plant highlighted by Gov. Robert Bentley during his re-election campaign voted to unionize earlier this month, despite the governor's objections.

The outcome was as close as it could be. According to the National Labor Relations Board, which oversees union elections, 75 people at the GD Copper USA plant in Pine Hill voted to join the United Steelworkers on Nov. 7, while 74 voted against.

Objections to the vote were filed with the NLRB on Friday afternoon, which could trigger a hearing on the election. The nature of the objections was not immediately clear Friday. The initial approval came despite pushback from Bentley, who sent a letter to employees before the vote urging them to reject the union.

Daniel Flippo, district director for the United Steelworkers, which represents 18,000 workers in Alabama, said Friday the employees seeking a union were concerned about health and safety issues, as well as wages and benefits.

This and VW. Funny that Republican's don't want workers to have a voice at work. Unions are run by votes. DUH!

Wesley Clark defends low-income cell phone program during speech in Baton Rouge. +ISIS.
Clark, a former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and 2004 Democratic candidate for president, also touched on ISIS during his visit to Baton Rouge. He said the region is sorting out 300 years of disagreement among schools of Islamic thought, which couldn't be solved by putting American troops back on the ground in Iraq.

"We tried to put democracy in Iraq but we failed," Clark said. "Without legitimate governance in the region, all the boots on the ground won't make a difference, just like they didn't in Iraq and just like they haven't in Afghanistan."

@RexRed,
And people complain that I didn't vote. My one vote wouldn't have made any difference in a world of dummies voting for all the wrong things.

I know my limits, my reality, and about midterm elections. Fighting against total idiocy is not one of my strong points. I surrender to it; knowing I have absolutely no control.

@RexRed,
So many half truths. Good luck with your delusions.

Who controlled the Congress during the last market and economic crash? Bush might have been in office, but the Dems controlled congress for 2 years. 2006-2008. Tell me good sir, what did the Dems do to help the country from 2006 until the collapse? This is why I say half truths. The GOP only had the Presidency at the time of the collapse. They then held total control of Congress until the GOP took the House in 2010.

@Baldimo,
You really are ignorant; you don't even know your own country's history.
Quote:
Sixty-eight percent of Americans — including 49 percent of Republicans — say President George W. Bush is responsible for the state of today’s economy, a new Gallup poll finds.
Indeed, the country is still reeling from Bush’s disastrous economic stewardship. His irresponsible tax cuts and deregulatory policies have contributed significantly to the slow recovery and are partly responsible for the nation’s economic plight. Here are 5 reasons why:
1. Deregulated Wall Street: It was a great time to be a Wall Street executive during the Bush administration. Sweeping financial deregulation helped build the housing bubble and allowed financial institutions to pursue risky trades unchecked. In fact, Bush eliminated the rules that allowed Wall Street to cause the financial crash that plunged the nation into the Great Recession.
2. Cut Taxes For The Wealthy: The Bush tax cuts — over 50 percent of which benefited the richest 5 percent of American taxpayers — cost about $2.5 trillion over the decade after they were enacted. Ten years later, Bush’s tax cuts are still the main driving factor of the national debt:

3. Ran Up A Tab On Two Wars: The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost the country trillions of dollars. Combined with Bush’s tax cuts, war spending was a main factor in blowing up the deficit and spending the surplus accumulated under Clinton. Lawmakers now use the deficit as an excuse for inaction.
4. Left Homeowners In A Lurch: While Bush was happy to help out the banks in the wake of the housing crisis, he did little to assist struggling homeowners. Hope For Homeowners, Bush’s proposal to assist those struggling with their mortgages, was a colossal failure; in its first six months, it helped just one homeowner renegotiate his mortgage. Many mortgage holders — 15.7 million or, one in three — are still underwater today.
5. Weakened Workers: Bush weakened worker safety regulations and collective bargaining rights under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Labor throughout his time in office. Today, corporations are back to making record profits, while workers’ incomes are falling.

@RexRed,
Another thing I don't understand; Americans voted republicans into control of congress, and they're the ones trying to repeal ACA.

Can anyone explain this dilemma to me?
