Michelle Bachmann wants to warn us that "if immigration reform passes we may never have a Republican President again."
This is indeed a sobering thought for Republicans who are now besides themselves with intense hatred for the immigration bill; the GOP believe if the bill is passed most Latinos will vote for Democrats. They [Republicans] appear trapped in a contradictory situation; they are faced with the overwhelming need to do something constructive, more humane, so the future for their kind is not totally wiped out....yet the disdain felt for these brown immigrants who do not look like them is a a gut-wrenching decision; I wonder if it will pass the House?
Truth of the matter is Latino lives, even though they have been disparaged much under white supremacy, have been slightly improved over African Americans whose darker color set them apart from most other ethnics. Many Latinos (Cubans) automatically vote Republicans but then again this particular group is in the minority. The average Latino, once this bill is passed with a path to citizenship, will in all likelihood seriously think about voting Republican and it will not be a difficult chore for the GOP. So it's in the power of the Republicans to turn things around for their party.
But the demographic change does not hold a positive future for the Republican Party as it stands today.
