I used to be a Buddhist monk. You can't completely stop all of the mind's activities, I don't think, but with training you can stop thoughts, ie, your mental dialog. It's a bit of mental gymnastics that can help you gain a more acute awareness of the nature of thoughts, thinking, emotions, etc. It can help you detach from them so that you don't get too hung up on passing thoughts and feelings. It's not for everybody and it takes time to develop the ability, but if you're curious, the only way to find out what it's like is to do it yourself. Good luck. Smile

There would be no "next". A happening would require time, which would be absent like everything else should experience stop. One couldn't even rejoice at the discovery of "So that's what nature is like in itself, without my cognitive processes giving form to it!" Because there would be no such discovery.

Perhaps mental activity stops in some kind of coma. I've practiced meditation for many years, and while "my mind" slows down considerably during the last half of a session, it never stops. I imagine that thoughts (ideas, images, and feelings) are as natural to the mind as are digestive juices to the stomach.

@JLNobody,
The mind does not always stop in a coma. A man I once knew lay dying with a brain tumor. He stayed in a coma for at least a week. The way we knew his mind still worked was, when questions were asked on the TV show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, he answered.

@TheEnlightenedOne,
I don't understand the question.
Mind is awareness. Remember master Yoda and his many admonitions to be mindful of this and that. If we are not mindful we have little or no control of where our awareness goes, and I believe strongly that my focus (of my awareness) determines my reality.

Were there no mind, the world would continue to wend its weary way onward. Believing that the world only exists because one can perceive it is a childish conceit.
