looked sumpin' like this, but it didn't have the bald's black marking:

Plus we saw what were either warblers or gnatcatchers scouting out nesting sites in the back yard.

Dammit I want spring NOW!

hey Philbis - could it have been a red-tailed or red-shouldered hawk?

lil'k, don't think it was either. at first thought it was a gull, except it was huge and had a dirty white coat. didn't make a sound -- its mere presence was undoubtedly intimidating to the rest of the critter population...

where's bob smyth when you need him?

we're eagerly awaiting the return of the chimney mockingbird and its dead-on impression of a car alarm Very Happy

Philbis - did you see it only from underneath while it flew? Or did you see more parts of it?

RP - From your description it sounds like maybe it was an Osprey.

Confused
it was never directly underneath me (a good thing, actually!), but i saw its underbelly.
also saw it from further away, but don't recall any distinguishing features, other than dirty white. was tough to tell seeing it against an overcast sky.

not being a bird afficionado, it coulda prolly been anything. whatever it was, it was very cool seeing it that close...

Uh, don't you mean directly above you? Unless you're stamping on birds without my knowin' about it, RP. Hmmm.

PS The skunks were out again last night, lookin' for love. I think our neighbors (the drunk guys next door) have opened a small, skunky red light district. I've seen squirrels go by, furtively glancing over their shoulders and wearing sunglasses at night.
