I just got my first invite for a very BIG showcase and I have 4 weeks.

Im nervous, my gut is shaking and yet.. Im so damn excited I could piddle like a poodle..

anyway

I really need ideas for creative frames. My work will be on display for sale..

The ideas I have of course are using wood and attaching prints to certain pieces.
Gutting old looking books and making those as 'frames'
Of course have a few art frames put up. I have some 27x37 frames that are amazing

I also have cheap 2.00 frames...

but I want creative ideas and I am stumped.... ?
Just in case some one has not seen my shooting style you can go through my blog on my profile and see.

weeeeeeeee!!!!
Yall this is HUGE!!!! Im so excited. holy.. wow.. crap..weee.....!!!

@shewolfnm,
As someone who has displayed photography in the apparent olden way, I want nothing to take away from the photo. Clean.

Did weegee/arbus et al need creative frames?

I admit I have one of my own photos in a flagrantly gaudy wood frame from my parents, but it fits with the pic of an italian hill town.

Don't corny up your photos, they stand for themselves.

What is this site that promotes framing?

My first reaction is: Don't do this. That will be an automatic turn off for a large segment of the "books are for reading, not gutting" population.

it isnt that they NEED anything added to them

but i want a few that are framed in a way that also attracts the 'collector' style person. Maybe that is not the best word but Im hoping my idea is understood..

@Butrflynet,
My next reaction is to wonder if it will be mostly your black and white photography on display?

If so, for a good lot of them, something metalic in the shiny black/chrome/silver tones would be good. Maybe go to an auto parts shop and take a look at what's available there.

Here are some examples from the Auto Zone website. You could use these door moldings to create a frame for a photo that has been mounted on thick card stock.

http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/col/S37734/image/4/

All it would take are some good miter cuts for the corners and some glue.

If its an industrial type look you need try some black poly pipe.

90 degree elbows seem to lend themselves.

I think I will keep the 'theme' to the black and whites yes.

I have only a few color photos that I would want printed , but they would be ten out of possibly 100 printed

@Butrflynet,
More ideas:

How about some cork flooring tiles for textured backgrounds? They're 12x12 inch squares and about $4 each. You could put some together to form different shapes or just use the 12x12 square, maybe turn it so it is a diamond shape and mount a photo on it.

Here are some from the Home Depot website to give you an idea of what I mean:

Along the same lines, you could move over to the wood moulding department and get some stock to make frames there. Some of these come in 8 ft pieces and are under $10. Here are some ideas:

You can spray paint the mouldings in whatever color/finish you need them to be.

Black and white is an idea, you're kidding. You just asked about all sorts of frames.

Please, calm. Minimal frame, if any.

@ossobuco,
Okay, I'm a brat. But - I'd like you to figure out what you do want re your photographs, and not just for some contest that seems to include framing.

Shewolf,

Take a look at some of these sites for some inspiration:

@Butrflynet,
Being a bitch, I'll call the first two as lame bananas, hilariously so; I don't personally know the third. Really, investigate old time framers.

Seek out if there is a real framing place in your area and talk with them.

@ossobuco,
Have you looked at the link Shewolf gave to last year's event photos to get an idea of what type of showing it is?

@ossobuco,
Instead of being bitchy, perhaps you care to look at the link shewolf has
provided from last years gallery opening. It seems to be a funky affair and
anything goes....
