Can someone fill me in on the new chat function on the left, upper side of page, please?

How does it work?

@Reyn,
it's on the right side for me, type in the box at the bottom of the section, hit enter and you're chatting

In case you are looking for it and can't find a thread with the link, there is a new link at the bottom of every page that navigates to the big screen version of the chat room that is also in the smaller version of the box on the New Posts page. Look for it under Quick Links.

Just to record, I'm having a problem with the new chat feature.

Using Windows 7, Explorer 8.

Type in text. I see it for about 2-3 seconds, and it disappears.

Hope this can be straightened out. Sad

I was on earlier this afternoon, with no problems at all.

@Reyn,
The same thing happened to me, first time I posted. Now, without me changing a thing, it works fine.

For the record:
when i scroll back the chat to catch up on what has been said the chat automatically returns to the most recent entery after less than a second.
On advice from RG i scrolled back, clicked outside the chat to remove the cursor (and variations of this like click outside then scroll back).
I have cleared cache, adjusted scrolling, and played with refresh reload rates and other settings in view and tools/options.
As yet i dont have an answer.
WIn 7, FF 3.6.16 both are on Auto update.

@dadpad,
to keep the thing from rolling away while I'm trying to read, I have to click so that the cursor is in the box with all the previous comments in it - not in the box where I'd add a comment - and not outside of the whole chat window

Having the same problem as dp.
