I've been to both Miro and Picasso's museum in Barcelona, and from what I can remember, Miro seems to come close to those slim figurines. Wink

Diane, I would imagine you are thinking of El Greco (who I listed). Boy did I start a string of comments. If I said "leading man" instead of "character actor" what would have been everybody's response? Leading men are generally pretty but not interesting; they tend to lack character. Bob's face could also be that of an ancient philosopher. Such a face!

I remember a great el greco painting at the Prado Museum in Madrid. The scene is a group of family members with three girls all looking at a large painting with a reflection of the painting in a mirror in the back of the room, and a man in the doorway.

c.i. that sounds like this painting, but it's Las Meninas by Velazquez:

mac, You're right. I wonder why El Greco stuck in my brain. I did a Google, and found this. http://www.cyberspain.com/passion/prado.htm

Oh, gads, that is in my top ten, the las Meninas by Velasquez (others have done a version of it)

Diane and I saw an El Greco at the Manet Velasquez show last year at the NY Met (which I think of as the Spanish French show) have my book from the show at work so I can't find the name of the piece. Since then there's been a whole exhibit on him. Oh, to live part time in NYC.

As I recall, and this was back in November of 1996, our tour guide gave us a ten minute lecture on the painting. Didn't remember "Velazquez" at all.

Here's another mannerist, Pontormo -

Andrea del Sarto has stretchy figures too.

Me, I think Dys looks a little like Klaus Kinski, but is more handsome.

'Course now Dys should get to say who I look like, to be fair. Sigh.

I want to shoot for whatshername, the french star with the baggy eyes, let's say an over the hill jeanne moreau...

Osso, you must appreciate the power in Kinski's face, in particular his eyes. Too bad I was born just another pretty face.

I take it back about del Sarto. Had fun looking through his work though. Yes, Kinski has a very strong face and so does Dys. (are you thoroughly embarrassed yet, Dys?)

You simply have to come to Florida. That's all there is to it.

So there.

I bet a nickel that Diane was thinking of Modigliani. Why? Just because. Any takers?

That Pontormo painting had a similarity to Bob.
El Greco and Modigliani both could have done a wonderful painting of Bob with his strong, weathered face full of character. I can easily see him as that ancient philosopher that JLN mentioned, as well as an academic.

There is a certain resemblance to Klaus Kinsky, with none of the cruelty so apparent in Kinsky's face.

No, Bob would never have been a leading man. There is far too much going on behind his eyes and in his mind. Those pretty faces never appealed to me.

Bob, personally, I think the real attraction at your house was Fred, who can fly! You were just a collateral benefit.
