What do you buy (or would not buy) at the Dollar Store?

@Swimpy,
But I thought everything is a $1. I love going in there and asking - how much is this? How much is this?

I'm assuming they haven't banned you from their stores quite yet? Wink

there was a place in Hamilton (and probably elsewhere) called A Buck or Two, they were very smart and thinking ahead, most of the stores with Dollar in their name now sell items that are higher than a dollar, the Dollarama stores here have items up to $2.50

@djjd62,
There used to be buck a book - then they are starting selling books - for just a little more.

They are no more - I haven't been to a dollar store that everything is a dollar - maybe some other junky stores, but they are not called dollar in their name.

I've mostly bought gift bags, wrapping paper, ribbon, and cards. A few times I bought a birthday helium balloon to attach to a gift.

My favorite purchase was two very attractive stoneware bowls which are a perfect size for serving individual portions of meatballs and spaghetti or a meal sized salad. I really wish I had bought 2 more of them since they never had them again. I have a pretty spoon-rest on my stove that I found at the dollar store as well as some nice refrigerator magnets. It's also a good place to pick up packages of sponges.

A few times I bought some bags of candy, but generally I avoid the food items because I worry that the products might be outdated.

I've also noticed that they have some items I can find elsewhere for less than a dollar.

@djjd62,
In New York in the '60's, there used to be 69 cent stores. We still have some of the stuff that we bought there.

Well the car freshener had no scent to it - that is my concern. You get what you pay for.

I didn't know before today - but there is an unscented version - and it's popular Shocked

then I googled - and you can buy air freshener blanks for you to add your own scent to.

I learn something, or two things, every day.

They had these mesh lumbar supports at the Dollar Store. They looked like the same ones that were selling at Walgreens for 2/$10.

And the Dollar Store makes a profit! Rolling Eyes

@ehBeth,
Tai Chi turned us on to the veggie bags (keeps stuff fresher longer,and seem to work, i can by a bag of salad and it stays pretty decent for about a week, as opposed to about two days in the bag they come in), the brand we get at Dollarama is $2 for 20 bags (10 each of 2 different sizes), most retail places have 10 bags for $5 and more
