@ossobuco,
Thanks, everyone. Wood arrives Monday. It will take a few days. It's going to be finished in place.

@Swimpy,
My horoscope today:

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): There is nothing to be fearful about when tackling a project that is exceptionally large in scope if you know you can do it. The good results you're anticipating will happen.

Not that I believe in astrology... only when it suits me.

@Swimpy,
Steps are sanded and sealed:

Carpet is out and piled on the porch:

Wood is stacked in the living room.
Where else would you put it?

@Rockhead,
It does smell rather funky in here. Had the windows open until we couldn't feel our toes.

@Swimpy,
These pictures aren't too great. Camera battery dead so I had to use my iPod. Anyway, the first coat is on the floor. Second coat to be applied today. Final coat will go on Monday. Should be able to move furniture in on Wed.

@Swimpy,
Remember the dresser for craigslist? Well, it turned out to have plastic veneer like they used in the 70s. Too bad, it was exactly the right size and style. Oh well, back to the hunt.

@Swimpy,
Whoa dramatic! I like the dark floor/ light walls I think.

This is all happening really fast, I'm impressed.

(Bummer about the dresser tho.)

@sozobe,
I doesn't seem to be happening quite so fast to me. Sleeping in the guest room is not that much fun. And I have had so many people wanting to come and visit now that i have nowhere to put them. Go figure.

@CalamityJane,
Thanks, CJ. I can't wait either. I've been looking for a dresser and nightstands. The ones I like are pretty expensive. the ones I can afford I don't like so much.

@Swimpy,
Have you looked at IKEA or Target? Target has some really great furniture...

@CalamityJane,
Yes, I have. I'm afraid I've gotten myself convinced that I want a specific style - not a good place to be when money is tight. I do want quality pieces though. I've been searching internet. Lots of nice stuff on eBay, but the shipping is a killer. I'm going to hit the resale and antique shops and see what I can find.

@Swimpy,
Overstock has good shipping (usually free or nominal, like $1) and sometimes good quality. (Only sometimes though.)

@sozobe,
I've found some pieces at Overstock that might work, however they require assembly. Reviews were mixed on how easy the assembly is. ThwSeimpy's are not handy with tools. I found two sets of dressers and nightstands at local furniture stores that will work, though they're not ideal. If I go with one of them, I'll probably get one nightstand to match and Something else for the other nightstand. I might get a mirrored one. I found a mirrored Parson's table online for a reasonable price.

@Swimpy,
you may have to poke around at this site to find something local/closeish (and to make the link works properly for you), but it's a pretty good resource

http://youbidlocal.auctionflex.com/searchauctions.ap?co=1&archive=n&lang=en

it's a site that carries local online auctions - stuff is posted for about 5 days - then there is a day to go and check it out in person if you want - then 1 or 2 days of bidding

hamburgboy will be having a lot of his furniture sold through this program in about a month

@Swimpy,
Swimpy, get something you really like, otherwise you'll regret it later on.
Antique shops are great resources, and if you have some around, I'd look
there. Things don't need to match anymore (that's so 60s), dresser and
nightstands can be different. You can even get a side table as nightstand.
I have a red/gold carved Chinese small cabinet on one side of my bed and
a small desk on the other.

@CalamityJane,
I totally agree that things don't have to match, but I need to be careful not to have too much going on in this small space. I like the mirrorred Parson's table because visually they take up no space. I'm waiting on buying one until the bed and the new mattress set is back together so I know if the height is good. Here's what it looks like: http://www.westelm.com/products/parsons-mirror-end-table-g215/?pkey=cdressers-nightstands

I like this one for the other side of the bed: http://www.westelm.com/products/silhouette-nightstand-g213/?pkey=cdressers-nightstands

Beth, How did you find that Garnivillo auction site? That's so funny because I pass that place on the way to Decorah to visit my son and it's always closed. They have neat stuff in the window all the time. Don't think that dresser on pg 11 is my style, though.

I'm looking at this dresser http://www.slumberland.com/furniture/Products/Urban-Loft-Collection---Dresser__2026244.aspx
