@ossobuco,
I think it will be fine either way. This room is on a different floor so I think I have license to do something different. I like the way a dark floor grounds a space. If everything else is light and the floor is light too, the room might float away.

@Swimpy,
I agree. With the flesh toned color of the Believable Bluff, you'll need a darker floor to anchor the room. You can always do that with an area rug if you want to keep the floor a lighter color. Edit: Never mind, just read about Mr Swimpy's allergies. I like the walnut with the golden streaks. Those streaks will really look nice with the buff colored walls.

Here's the Believable Bluff swatch for others to view:

@Swimpy,
Regarding the walnut vs. red oak costs, what about asking for a quote for an unstained floor within your price range and staining it with a darker walnut?

Have you given any thought to lighting yet? Bedside table lamps vs ceiling fixtures? Do you want to continue the Asian flair with the lighting?

When choosing wall colors (especially in a bedroom), I always think about the temperature of the room. Does this room always seem to feel warmer or cooler than you'd like? Compensate with color.

This is a pretty neutral color and fits with the blueish bedding.

@CalamityJane,
Oh, I hope that my room looks that good!

Buttrfly, if that paint turns out to be flesh toned I'm going to pitch a fit! Please note that the color visualizer on SW site does not render the colors very well and your monitor doesn't either. It's more of a camel color but a little lighter.

The painter should be done in a couple of days. I'll try to post a picture of the finished color, although that won't look true either.

Lighting will entail a new ceiling fan. Looking for something a bit modern and sleek. Whoever asked about the temperature in this room,,,it's really hot in the summer but we keep it really cool in the winter. The ceiling fan is a must.

Then two bedside lights. The sitting area will need some lighting too. I haven't decided much about this area. Contemplating a small writing desk, but not sure what else. A chaise would be fun.

@Swimpy,
Oooh just catching up!

I love this stuff.

I like the birdie comforter! We're redoing sozlet's room, slowly, and that was a starting point for us too. This is hers (twin though):

The colors aren't right on my monitor, what we have is more periwinkle. Less pink in it.

Walls will be a lighter version of that (periwinkle-ish), with cream woodwork (already painted, I hate to paint bare wood) and darker plum accents. Also some light springy green and black.

Her bed is cream (Hemnes from Ikea, new, she LOVES it).

Coming along sloooowwwwwly but she's excited.

@sozobe,
I like that comforter. On my monitor it looks purple. I wish we had an Ikea close by. The closest is near Chicago, Schaumburg actually.

I found a great dresser on craigslist. I think it's walnut. Mid-century modern http://dubuque.craigslist.org/fuo/2192630793.html but they won't answer my email and they've not posted a phone number. $75 is a great price, too.

Can't wait to see the painted room, Swimpy. Oh the dresser looks hip, very retro chic.

Sozobe, I love sozlet's new bedding, and I can vision the room very well.
We did Jane's in black/pink not too long ago....

@Swimpy,
Hey that's a snazzy dresser! Hope you get it.

The comforter is from Target actually. The bed is Ikea though. The Schaumburg Ikea used to be so close to me. Sniff. I'm going to keep lobbying for one in Ohio, preferably Columbus -- college town right smack dab in the middle of the state, it's perfect. (Our closest one is 2 hours away. Got the bed + mattress delivered free in a promotion though.)

CJane, that's a great room! I love the cluster of globe lights over the bed. The pink, black and yellow really works.

I'm getting the walnut floor. It was going to cost an arm and a leg for the oak anyway, so what the hell for a 10% upgrade I can get walnut. It's only money, right? It's going to be beautiful and he can start installing it this week!

@Swimpy,
Painting was done yesterday, but it was dark when I got home and there wasn't enough light to tell what it looked like. since I leave for work before the sun comes up, I still don't know if I like it or not. I probably won't get a good look at it until Saturday.

@Swimpy,
Hope you love it. Looking forward to seeing the results (I quite liked the colour in the link Butrflynet provided -- very soothing.)

@Swimpy,
Here are the pics I promised. The paint IRL reads a light caramel tone. On my computer thefirst picture looks a little more yellow and the second a little more peachy.

@Swimpy,
Hey, nice! A little lighter than I expected. Nice warm tone to it.

The walnut floors will add a lot of oomph.

@sozobe,
It is a tiny bit darker than in the photographs, but it is lighter than I expected, too. The advice I got was to go a shade lighter than you think you want because it will be darker than the paint chip. I don't know if I buy that now. It looks ok. I'll make it work.

@Swimpy,
It looks very good, Swimpy, and it complements the wood frames and doors
nicely. The walnut floor will make it perfect. I can't wait to see the finished
bedroom....
