I do see things or have ideas but Im not being aggressive in pursuing them. Im just sorta in this between the tides phase. Im not even photoing things. What I am doing is keeping this large journal of the boast and I write in it daily , on a laptop. I enjoy re-reading some of the adventures and short trips we take. However they are rather personal so theres not much of a larger appeal there .

I think I missed my mid-life crisis, or if I actually had it, I didnt know what it was anyway. Nobody publishes in guy magazines what a mid-life crisis is , symptomatically. Is it even a crisis? Maybe its just a mild eccentricity(In that case how would anybody know?)
I think I was cheated out of an official mid-life crisis and its caught up, so maybe this is mine, ( Doing the math , I figure that Ill live to be 112).
I hope my painting drive is just lying around here or stuck in a closet somewhere and I hope Ill find it before Fall. Right now Im just in total goof-off mode.
I have some technical writing to do, somebody ask me whethere Ive finished those?
No, on second thought dont ask.

Ive seen your work JL and theres no flinging there. Im right honored to know you as an artist. That one painting of the hot sun through the chair slats was great and it sticks with me as a work that "inpires" (as opposed to copy) my own views. I find myself looking through chairs and tables to see the scenery behind and how would the focused view relate to an overall composition. I have you to thank for that obsession.

Hey there... boy, I'd forgotten about this thread! Some great art on here - really vibrant. Love it. Farmerman, have you posted anything on here?

I think I posted this one somewhere else here, but it's my latest - Waves... 5' wide by 3' high... a new style for me.

here's one I did when I first started - it's a composite from several pics in Wales and Ireland... just getting the feel of the lands...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/BBU2/Pamelia/wales.jpg

And here's one, Nakusp, of an area in BC where we camped one year. I love natural patterns, which is what I was trying to convey here.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/BBU2/Pamelia/Nakusp.jpg

And here's actually the most recent one - it's Vancouver. I did it for my daughter who lives 3000 miles away and gets homesick. It's 3' x 3'...

and here's some trees at night ...

Here are two more from Ireland from 1991-1992:

Okay, that's enough for now!

Wow, Mame, paintings one, two and four show you to be what I consider a real artist, with a distinct style and vision. By "style", I don't mean a fabricated shtick; your shapes and color patterns seem very genuinely you.

The others may be good but I failed to respond to them.

Thank you, JL... it's all a matter of experimentation, isn't it? I don't respond to some of my stuff anymore, either! Thanks for your comments.

Here's the one I moved inadvertently.

Oh, I love that one. Such lively water. It actually helps me to break out of an impass I have with a painting of water. I won't copy you, but I might certain benefit from your image of moving water.

You are so sweet - what a nice thing to say - the best, actually! You go ahead and use whatever you want.

SCREW Diebenkorn. I Need some advice and help. Ive blown almost a month of just screwing around and no new art to show. Im in a real slump and Im running out of time. Ive gotta be back home by mid September and Im just not even interested in starting anything. What the hells wrong? Im beginning to worry.

my advice is get a sketchbook and do something from life, without fail, every day. It isn't supposed to be a 'finished' painting or drawing, just an investigation of something nearby - a practice piece. It breaks down that fear barrier that can develop when you haven't done anything for ages. it doesn't have to be anything interesting or beautiful - a pile of old shoes, your glass of beer/cup of coffee, just ordinary things around you.

Mame, an interesting use of pattern - do you like Klimt? do you know his landscapes? they are full of pattern. There's a wonderful one of a pear tree.

Hi Viv... yes, I do know Klimt and like some of his work - he's so detailed, though... I'll have to look for that pear one...

Georgeous effect, but I see it as trickery.

Reminds me a bit of a painting by an watercolor artist that shows at my old gallery - Eric Fidjeland - (I don't think of his work as trickery. To me he is a painter of light.)

Somehow, the term "painter of light" or the " artist who paints with light" will never mean the same to me. NOWADIMEAN VERN?

Let's say his paintings are really quite true to real life light conditions, in contast to many landscape painters works. I realize they are much more detailed than Mame's work - I just was riffing off of the pear tree "pattern"

I like this painting. It is not a mere "pattern" as Klimt's seems to be.

Yesterday I enjoyed a tour of the installation of 155 paintings by our university's emeritus college artists by the dean of the college in which our works are being shown. The quality of the installation is very impressive. My work was presented to its greatest advantage. NO complaints at all. I'm SO convinced that artwork looks so much better when well framed and installed. The only problem is that while there will be considerable traffic going by my 30 paintings (distributed on two of the five floors of the show) during the academic work week (and throughout the year of the show), it is only open to the art-seeking public on the first Friday art evenings (the university building is located in central downtown among many art galleries). The rest of the time, tours may be given by me and the other artists, whenever we wish. Still, it's FREE: there are no commissions for sales and the publicity in the print, (and perhaps the TV and radio) media is paid by the university. Smile

I like the Klimt trees too - the 'pattern' is complex and shimmering when you see it larger - I could live with one Smile

Well done jln, it sounds good and must look great. How about some photos?
