Dagmaraka, you might also look at <[email protected]>. It has lots of practical beginners' stuff. I forget who recommended it, Vivien, Osso, or some such altruist.

Nope, that didn't quite do it. I've never called them up; I receive their updates because I subscribe to them. I'll have to look further into the website address.

Lovely images Vivien....there is a lot of texture
in your painting...
Are you using a palette knife to get that layering effect, perhaps scraping in some areas or is it all brushwork?

yes it was painted entirely with a knife so that I could keep the colours clean and clear - much easier to just wipe the knife!

what do you think of the blowing it up idea and the large canvas covered in small roses idea?

I don't know when I'll start on the blown up one but the other will have to wait until June when the roses flower again - more source material needed.

Dag I envy you - India - <sigh> - Anthony Eyton did some wonderful work there but in reproduction it looks much tighter than it is - his work is actually beautifully loose.

Laughing

I'd love to if funds permitted! I had the chance to go to NY in the final year of my degree but knew how much work I'd got to do in a short time and how tired I'd be - and sacrificed the chance Crying or Very sad - I would have loved to have gone.

Travelling around like Dys and Diane would be wonderful - I just need to win the lottery!

I'd like to travel Europe too - I love France and know I'd love Italy but haven't been there.

What is everyone else working on?

Ive been working in the East Quebec and LAbrador area for the last couple weeks . On many breaks in the work Ive done a bunch of still lifes of equipment in the powder sheds and dragline equip areas. Its been rather cold so Ive used pastels and charcoal and conte crayon. Im gonna do some finished works of some of the mule engines that have been set up since the 1920s . I took a bunch of photos . (film , cause the digital cameras dont seem to take long exposures to really cold air.I had one but it was buried in my parka so deep it was a pain getting it out. -even film gets somewhat brittle if left out too long, and batteries just die)
Glad Im home till April.

I've heard you mention painting, sculpting, carving, photograpy, and furniture making, farmerman.

Quite an impressive list, but how are you at cake decorating?

the work sounds interesting - are you going to post some of the sketches? I love seeing people's sketchbooks.

I see that youre out of the Canadian slammer. Get to see Cav?
Vivien, as soon as I get on photo bucket, and I get my pics back and I scan my sketches , ill post em. Theyre quick sketches mostly of the machinery but I did do some of the mines dogs. Those were action sketches.

Vivien, pardon my density, but what am I seeing here? These "luscious" images are, what, painting over photos (the size makes this seem unlikely)?

no photo, oil on canvas and the image is purely out of my head - a sort of amalgamation of interesting light on the landscape seen over the years.

Hills with a wood flowing down the valley and the light illuminating the trees on the horizon and making them seem to illuminate the painting from within is what I was aiming for.

It is now in its new home - a collector with huge rooms and some lovely paintings.

What are you working on now?
