@roger,
Newt's a contradiction in is own time, preaches morality like a 'new' GOPer while being trapped with his own infamy.

Oh well, Newt wouldn't be caught with the same bonehead historical and philosophical discrepancies that have netted Bachmann/Palin.

@ehBeth,
ehBeth, Good article; thanks for sharing it on a2k. The GOP has turned into something nobody was aware of until recent times; they have become the "no tax party." Doesn't leave much room for running this country; we've decimated public jobs, and they cry about the increase in unemployment. They lack the ability to see the consequences of their own making.

georgeob has said that the republicans would outshine on any objective test. I don't see any evidence of that ability in the way they're running this country into poverty. Tax cuts implemented during 2001-2002 that promised jobs hasn't produced any jobs; we lost jobs. In fact, job creation was the worst since Hoover's presidency. When a party runs on one message, "no taxes," it shows they have no brains. How can they possibly do well on any objective test?

Never made that statement, waterdude. But you're the one with the RINO clause.

@H2O MAN,
My opinion is that the greatest treat to the country and the constitution is righteous ignoramuses. Right now the 'new' GOP seems to have embraced them wholly.

To bad, the two party system has in the past provided a system of checks and balances. Something that righteous ignoramuses aren't willing to acknowledge.

Are we all having fun?
Two great quotes today:
Bachmann on the economy and the debt ceiling issue: "(Obama) has no plan for economic recovery... (He) would rather be discussing the NFL lockout or whether we are eating our peas."
South Carolina Dem chairman on Jon Huntsman (former ambassador to China under Obama and now a Repub candidate for president): "Here's a guy who had his lips firmly planted on Obama's butt three months ago, and is now speaking ill of (him) out of those same lips."

@realjohnboy,
Typical GOP/tea party meme; they always attack without providing any solution. They promised jobs in the last election cycle; where are the jobs they promised?

Quote:
The Republican and Teabaggers made a lot of promises in the 2010 elections. Now that they have been elected it seems they have forgotten most of them. I feel it is my job as a "True Blue All American" to remind them of said promises and hold their feet to the fire.

Here are a few of the promises the Republicans made:

-To put America back to work
-To eliminate Welfare
-To eliminate Social Security
-To eliminate Medicare
-To eliminate Medicaid
-To win the war in Afghanistan

What have the Republicans actually done since they were elected ?

1. Insured the Rich would get Tax Cuts
2. Tried to repeal medical care for poor children

If they aren't keeping the promises they made in the 2010 election, should we believe anything they tell us in 2012 ? Where are the jobs ?

The GOP pledge to America.
Quote:
Americans need no reminder that the challenges we face are enormous. Our economy has declined and our debt has mushroomed with the loss of millions of jobs. The social fabric that binds us as citizens, families and communities is unraveling. Voices in and out of government whisper that our standing as the world’s leader of democracy and economic growth is ending.

The American people do not accept these counsels of timidity, failure, and despair. In town halls and on public squares, in every corner of this country, people have gathered and spoken out – in small groups and larger crowds, through phone calls and in letters, through websites and new technologies.

Legislators in Washington have imposed an agenda that doesn’t reflect the priorities of the people. What’s worse, the most important decisions are made behind closed doors, where a flurry of backroom deals has supplanted the will of the people.

It's time to do away with the old agendas: that much is clear. It's not enough, however, to swap out one set of leaders for another. Structure dictates behavior, so we have drafted this blueprint on a process of listening to the American people and fielding their concerns and ideas for turning things around.

The American people have humbled us. They have reminded us that the privilege to serve is temporary. Hard work and tough decisions will be required of the 112th Congress. No longer can we fall short. No longer can we kick the can down the road. In November, the people voted to end business as usual, and thus, we begin carrying out their instructions. This is our guidebook as we move forward.

This is our Pledge to America.

On Jobs.
Creating Jobs - Making America More Competitive by Ending Economic Uncertainty
If we've learned anything during the recession, it's that we cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity. The best way to get people working again is to rein in the growth of government and end the uncertainty facing small businesses. By addressing both issues, our plan revives free enterprise and moves America away from a debt-driven economy.
Encouraging Growth
Permanently Stop All Job-Killing Tax Hikes
We will help the economy by permanently stopping all tax increases, currently scheduled to take effect January 1, 2011. That means protecting middle-class families, seniors worried about their retirement, and the entrepreneurs and family-owned small businesses on which we depend to create jobs in America.
The Fight Continues... In December 2010, the House passed and the President signed into law a bill to prevent all tax hikes for two years. Our work continues to protect Americans from tax hikes that will destroy jobs.
Give Small Businesses a Tax Deduction
We will allow small business owners to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their business income. This will provide entrepreneurs with a much-needed infusion of capital for investment and new hiring.
The Fight Continues...The Fight Continues...
The House Ways and Means Committee is working on legislation to provide this tax deduction for American small businesses
Rein in the Red Tape Factory in Washington, DC
Excessive federal regulation is a de facto tax on employers and consumers that stifles job creation, hampers innovation and postpones investment in the economy. When the game is always changing, small businesses cannot properly plan for the future. To provide stability, we will require congressional approval of any new federal regulation that has an annual cost to our economy of $100 million or more. This is the threshold at which the government deems a regulation “economically significant.” If a regulation is so “significant” and costly that it may harm job creation, Congress should vote on it first.
The Fight Continues...The Fight Continues...
Congressman Geoff Davis has introduced H.R. 10, the REINS Act, on January 20, 2011 which restricts unelected federal officials from imposing huge costs on the economy and American people through burdensome regulations. It is currently progressing through the legislative process.
Repeal Job-Killing Small Business Mandates
One of the most controversial mandates of the Democrats' government takeover of health care requires small businesses to report to the Internal Revenue Service any purchases that run more than $600. This 1099 reporting mandate is so overbearing that the IRS ombudsman has determined that the agency is ill-equipped to handle all the resulting paperwork. We will repeal this job-killing small business mandate.
Promise Fulfilled This Promise was Fulfilled on March 3, 2011
With the passage of H.R. 4, The Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011, an expansion currently scheduled to take effect in 2012 of information that businesses must report to the Internal Revenue Service on Form 1099 was repealed.

They speak with forked tongue (they lie). Obama offered to cut social security and Medicare to cut 4 trillion to save cost, but the GOP reneged on their promise by not negotiating in good faith.

They have only put a gun to Obama's head by restricting any discussion on taxes. I hope they don't negotiate the increase in the debt ceiling, because they are going to effect an economic nightmare that'll make the Great Recession look like a small dip.

Those voters who advocate for the same policy as the GOP will learn very quickly how their choice not to increase the debt ceiling will hurt their pocket books and future. It's going to impact the world's economy.

We need this big disaster to reform our government; it just goes downhill painfully very slowly in the present state of affairs.

So since you dont think they have moved on any of these promises, can we safely assume you support all of these goals?

After all, if you didnt you wouldnt be holding their feet to the fire to get them done.

@mysteryman,
mm, Are you really that dumb? It's not "what I want" when they are promised by the GOP to win votes. It's not about me; it's about the GOP, and their lies.

Obama offered to include social security and Medicare to cut up to $4 trillion, but the GOP said "no."

Could one of the Herman Cain supporters explain to me his comments regarding the Islamic Center being proposed for Murfreesboro, TN?
Cain on allowing it to be built: "It is an infringement and an abuse of our freedom of religion."

It looks like the quest for the Republicans to pick a presidential candidate is going to be sped up by a month.
The Iowa caucus is the 1st up, followed by the traditional 1st in the nation New Hampshire primary. The non-partisan Secy of State since 1976 will not budge on giving that up, wanting NH to be at least a week ahead of the next state in the queue.
Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Nevada are jockeying for position, which could move NH from mid-Feb to mid-Jan.
The Repub leadership is not happy about the acceleration of the races.

By the way, H20, do you have any thoughts on Herman Cain's comments re the mosque in TN? They struck me as a bit bizarre, but I am not really following his quest at this point.
