I intended that as an (admittedly lame) quip.

There was an interesting Rasmussen poll released yesterday. 1000 Likely Voters were asked who they would be for if there were 3 official candidates on the ballot for the U.S. House: Democrat, Republican and a Teaparty "member."
The results: Dem- 40%; Repub- 21%; Teaparty- 18%; Undecided- 21%.
Amongst people who described themselves as Repubs, the breakdown assuming a 3-way race was Repub- 45%, Teaparty- 28%; Undecided- 27%.
I am curious as to how you might predict: Will the GOP split ahead of the 2012 election?

No, I don't think so. Eventually, maybe, but not by 2012.

I suspect that the tea baggers are simply being manipulated by people who are reliable Republican supporters, but who want to steer that party farther to the right in aid of their own self-interest.
