@JTT,
I kind of agree with that. It became more evident during the campaign, though. (Before the campaign, not really knowing him that well, it seemed like he might actually have principles.)

@roger,
haha, Rog. Riding the Gov around can be a risky business.

I like a lot of what I read on his website. If you become privy to news pro or con re Johnson - please share. How do you like him as a presidential candidate?

@roger,
So, Rog - correct me if I'm wrong but he's pro-legalization, pro-immigration, for bringing the US military back home, for re-focusing money spent overseas back home, fiscal responsibility, ...

That won't sit well with the military industrial complex. Where might their obscene profits come from then, when they can't blow up millions of foreigners, upon whom will they turn their guns?

I think they still have a lot of agent orange left. Isn't there a good chunk of forest that could be cleared for farming up in Farmer's country?

Re the military , industrial complex the military want to stop the manufacture of abrahm tanks but the politicians where their made are fighting the decision in their district. So much for political fiscal responsibility. Cut the food stamps and medicare for old people who only have a few more years to live. Hell, the chances are that the pols wont have to worry about how they vote.

@RABEL222,
With the money saved from aggressive military use, Johnson vows to make good on promises to retirees. However, I wonder how deep other social services cuts may be...

Huckabee will evidently announce his run/no run decision tonight on his Fox tv show. His aides claim that he has not told them but they expect it to be "no." The Federal Election Commission reportedly would be unhappy with Huck and Fox if he used his own program to say he is running.

@Lash,
I like him quite well in nearly all respects. I don't think he is even close to having the national recognition needed to win, but the popular question in the late 70s was "Jimmy Who?" and we know how that worked out. In other words, I don't expect to make it through the primaries, but darn, it would be good to have someone to vote for rather that picking the lesser of evils.

Honestly Lash, I can't visualize any of the previous Republican candidates as president. Same for prior Democrat candidates.

@roger,
Here's a fairly recent interview with Johnson on numerous issues.

@roger,
Just finished listening to the interview I linked. I agree that he'd be a long shot in the primaries. He sounds refreshingly honest. Too honest and too liberal to survive to the big dance on the Republican ticket.

@roger,
I know, right! He's not a "traditional" Republican... but those traditionals may be happy to get a part of what they want if they thought the dread evil Socialist Obama would be ousted...

and people like you and I would actually be happy.

Anyway, I'll keep watching him. Thanks for the info/perspective. I should've known you'd like him, too.

@realjohnboy,
You just can't possibly top the lure of working for an exciting, honest, corporation like Fox I guess.

I watched his show for the first (and probably only) time last night. He's at peace with his decision. I am too.

@JTT,
Actually, it gives his the perfect platform to support his chosen candidate(s). He has a sincere demeanor that will appeal to those who look to him for an opinion. He's probably more influential there than he would be on the campaign trail for the next two years. He stated he he's going to spend his time supporting other "pro-life" candidates.

I'm still liking Huntsman. I'm sure I'll be disappointed in the outcome.

Here's this on the current state of affairs.

Quote:
Huckabee is a prominent conservative who would have been a serious contender for the party nod with instant support among Christian evangelicals who dominate the Iowa caucuses and the early South Carolina primary. And with him out of the race, there is no clear candidate out there to for them to rally around.

Onetime House Speaker Newt Gingrich has been making a concerted effort to reach out to the right. Although he's been noting his recent conversion to Catholicism, he's hampered by two divorces and an adulterous history. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney must explain his change of heart over the years on positions on guns, gay rights and abortion; health care also is a problem for him. Minnesota's ex-governor, Tim Pawlenty, has had to apologize for backing climate change legislation. Donald Trump? Highly unlikely. More
