@JTT,
It turned out, JTT, to be an interesting debate. The proposed bill would allow people to hunt on Sundays if they did so during hunting season on private property if they had the landowner's written permission.
Proponents argued that, given the economy, many rural folks are at work six days a week and Sunday is the only day to hunt.
Opponents said that there was much anecdotal evidence of hunters straying onto private property without bothering to get permission.
In addition, the argument was made that Sunday was the only day of the week where hikers, bikers and kids could romp in the woods confident that they weren't going to get shot by a trigger happy hunter who mistook white mittens for the tail of a deer.
There is no evidence of that that I could find, by the way. Most injuries and deaths are the result of hunters accidentally shooting themselves or each other (about 10 a year).
Urban legislators passed on the issue, and it looks like the rural ones are coming out against the idea.
No one, to my knowledge, is arguing that the squirrels, rabbits and deer should be given a day off.
