@spendius,
In America we might do things backward compared to what you are use to. We thumb down post that are bullshit and thumb up the ones that are on topic and factual or at least close to being.

Dream on rl. You thumb up or down according to tummy tickling criteria. You needn't bother denying that.

Stuff like this is why I think Obama is just going to destroy Romney/anyone in the general election:

Quote:
The Specter Of Bush

Dreher asks:

Quote:
Can you find a single significant point on which Romney, Gingrich, or Santorum differ substantially from George W. Bush? It’s amazing. If Bush were considered a successful president, they would be bringing him up all the time. That they do not, even as they have an incumbent Democrat they deride as a failure, tells you that they know Bush and his legacy are poison. And yet, they may not believe in Bush, but they sure believe in what he stood for. And so does the GOP base, evidently.

And the way they handle this is denial. The recession was Obama's fault. Unemployment is all Obama's fault. The recovery hasn't happened; the recession has gotten worse. Bush won the war in Iraq, and killed bin Laden because of torture. Tax cuts created a job boom in the 2000s - and the current doldrums are because Obama raised taxes (which, of course, he didn't). All the debt is Obama's fault - all of it, if you have the intellectual honesty of Glenn Reynolds.

We have, in other words, an entire party built on amnesia and untruth. And an inability to understand the difference between the challenges of 1980 and the tectonic shifts of 2012 onward.

It's a fundamentalist party that has now found someone who will gladly, willingly repeat these lies without a qualm or a moment of reflection. Hence Romney's slogan: "Believe In America." And its corollary: because the president doesn't.

Grappling with a changing world is hard. And, for some, terrifying. For them, there is a politics now on offer. Just keep singing "America The Beautiful" and everything will be okay.

Moving right along. I hope that it is anecdotal about many Repub and Dem voters claiming that they are inclined right now to stay home come November.
I have clung to the belief that, in a two party system, 40% would vote for one party, 40% for the other, and the elections would be decided by the 20% Indies.
Those loyal to the losing party would be able to lick their wounds, regroup and rebound to fight again.
That is changing, isn't it? Politics seems to be an endless and costly cycle where the goal is to get elected and then reelected. Getting anything done is secondary.
And the public is frustrated with that as demonstrated by the approval ratings.

The Repub party could split apart unless they can find a unifier. I don't know who that might be and he/she may not emerge until after Nov. I see it as difficult for Romney and Gingrich to be able to unite after the nastiest nomination process in my memory. But it could happen.
Obama needs to keep current voters focused but also needs to energize the young 1st time voters. I think that will be tough.

@cicerone imposter,
Its this disconnect from america's realities that will keep republicans from winning the 2012 election and probably with their continued antics, the 2016 too. Fingers crossed Wink

@realjohnboy,
I think that Gov Christie has a fine future in US politics. He needs to lose that concern for being a RINO and getting the point across that the GOP isnt a majority of ultra- conservative assholes. Fiscally conservative GOPers with moderate to liberal social views are out ther and are just hiding while the Limbaugh branch of the GOP burns itself out through the next few years.

The ultra conservatives seem to have provided sanctuary to the nuts and batshits and I think that the welcome is rapidly wearing out as the New Yor/ New Jersey/PA brand of GOP reflex their control of the party

Wow! I just got called by Quinipiac with about a 30 question poll about national and state issues and personalities. The lady, very professional, seemed grateful that someone would not hang up on her.
For the record, I do favor allowing in-season game hunting in Virginia on Sunday's provided you have the land-owner's written permission. Some debate on that this week in our legislature.

I'm not sure how much influence the Donald has, but he certainly must be in the news for his ego.
