I'll be very surprised if Romney don't end up winning the primary even if barely. But Santorum seems to have bagged the working class theme more than the rest of them. Been interesting to watch as an outsider.

@Thomas,

Careful! You're beginning to talk like a French, which may jeopardize your Republican membership card.

Speaking of Republicans, I think you guys are off to a pretty good start. With Romney way ahead in New Hampshire, I think he now has enough momentum for his campaign to snowball. The Democratic Party may face disappointment of its hope for a long, self-cannibalizing, Republican primary season.

I like the French, and have long believed we have more in common culturally with them than the British. We were both partly defined by revolutions; we both consider ourselves the center of the world; and we both believe all others should speak as we do. As my parents often reminded me, the British are the only Europeans who never overthrew their aristocracy.

I like full bodied red wine even more.

I made a lucky guess based only on the impression that Paul's stridency was getting a little stale. I missed Santorum's ascent entirely (though I think he has nowhere to go with it). I agree the Republican campaign appears to be coalescing around Romney, and that he has likely played his cards well so far, keeping a modest profile while the fringe candidates came and went. However, as the old Navy saying goes ..... 'It's never too late to fail'. In any event I strongly suspect the final nine months of the campaign season will be very different from those that preceeded them.

Bachmann's out:

Quote:
Reports: Bachmann Suspending Campaign
It appears the bell has finally tolled for Michele Bachmann. After finishing dead last in Iowa, Bachmann is suspending her campaign, reports National Journal’s Ron Fournier. She’s set to address the press at 11 am ET.

Update: And now CNN confirms as well.

@Joe Nation,
The shots they showed here made RS look very stodgy. It looks so obvious that Romney is the man that I suspect a Media conspiracy to get candidates to squander their supporters money and to make Media look like a bigger deal than it actually is.

I dislike Romney, the same as his father. He is not one of us, as his father was not.
The Romneys r R.I.N.O.s.; fake Republicans.

Thay 'd drag America 's conservative party to the left, toward collectivist-authoritianism.

Their campaign slogan woud be: "Well, I 'm not as bad as obama."

I 'd trudge, grudgingly, to the polls, hold my nose n vote for the lesser excrement.

Romney 's campaign 'd generate very little enthusiasm; more dull resignation to him.

@OmSigDAVID,
Love it. And I must say that this directly mirrors everything I read on Conservative sites across the web.

I was not sad to see Michele Bachmann go.

Her website said that she favors the 2nd Amendment because she approves of hunting ANIMALS.

In her mind, the 2 A is not about self defense, but about SPORTS! UNBELIEVABLE!

@DrewDad,
I'm impressed that even with how much Santorum (the person) is in the news now, "Spreading Santorum" is still the #1 result when you google him.

However, things got a bit awkward when E.G. and I kept making Santorum jokes and sozlet was like "what? WHAT?" Hard one to explain. I kept it to the broad outlines.

Did you consider yourself a fake Republican back in 1981, when Reagan dragged the Republicans to the right---betraying the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Earl Warren, Gerald Ford, and Pete McCloskey? You should have. After all, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Those sentiments probably explain the crazy republican primary this season. Anybody but Romney unless its Obama.

@Cycloptichorn,
I think it started in 2003 actually.

Of course re: years, just impressive. Dan Savage may have an opportunity to really impact world affairs with this one. (Well, that's assuming Santorum has a real chance, which I don't think is actually the case. He happened to be the next wave of not-Romneys at a critical juncture, and as such he's going to get some real support from those who can't stand Romney, but he still doesn't have a serious chance of becoming president IMO.)

Well, reciprocally: I love that.
The heart of Republicanism and the reason for the existence of the GOP is conservatism.
Without us, it is nothing, with no purpose.

For that reason, I doubt that Romney has much future in it.
Maybe he 'll become a Democrat, as John Lindsay did.
