The Case for Panicking

Who cares if it’s just one poll? Donald Trump could be president. Americans should be terrified.

excerpt:
So, then, what can a single poll tell us in a long election cycle that itself has become an unpredictable freak show? Nothing—but it can serve as a much-needed reminder that this election is closer than it has any right to be. And the proper response to that fact—to Trump’s almost incomprehensible rise from birther-conspiracist celebrity half-wit to presumptive nominee sitting within striking distance of a former secretary of state—is fear. A bigoted know-nothing could truly be our next president. To argue that Americans should be anything less than terrified is itself irresponsible.

@Builder,
There were several specific claims the Sanders camp made about motions and delegates. Both of those were debunked... the Sanders camp did not put the motions forward correctly and did not even have the questionable delegates at the convention. No Team Sanders motion was going to get the 2/3 majority necessary to pass anyway. On the voice votes, again, there were more Clinton delegates in the house. That the Sanders delegates yelled loudly doesn't change that.

Would he have any more chance of pushing an agenda through Congress than president Obama did?

This is clearly one of those "lesser than two evils" scenarios, for mine.

@Builder,
Obama got a significant amount of his initiatives through in spite of the immovable bulkhead of the right-wing. There's a reason it's called the most powerful office in the free world.

Huh, nor sure how that happened. I'll link it again and see if it does the same thing. I think I have a bug on my computer my program is missing.

Ex-Trump Employee Speaks Out on His Treatment of Women

Barbara Res worked for Donald Trump for over a decade, starting in 1980, serving as vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president of the Trump Organization. Trump often invokes his hiring of Res as proof that he's long been a champion of women — something he's has had to be quite defensive about lately, given his sexist attacks on the campaign trail, his immense unpopularity among women voters and his campaign manager's mistreatment of female reporters.

From our perspective, that is because of the firepower and reach of the armed forces, of which, Australia is one arm.

You can't deny that Obama's "hope and change" policy changed very little in two terms, for the people of America, aside from increasing the threat of terror attacks on home soil.

You are so right. He took his eyes off Iraq and believed in the democratic system. He believed in Bush's admin for the prez of that country. He was ideologically naive. He believed in the American spirit and it bit us in the ass. Any study into Iraq will show that was a disaster waiting to happen...no matter the next prez. Obama walked into a stinky mess. Between the housing crisis and the mess in Iraq and Afghanistan..pls show me a perfect president....

And created new messes in Libya (supposedly a humanitarian mission) and Syria, where "rebels" regularly received munitions and food drops.

And he's fully aware that the largest purchaser of weapons made by the US is the Saudi govt, despite them not being "at war" officially with anyone.

Would it be any better if we had sent troops in? He is fully aware, as are us all, that just creates more hate. Contrary to popular belief, we send a bunch of uneducated buffoons into combat with no respect for the culture and expect they will respect us. Who is fooling who?

I watched a doc and a 19 yr old in Iraq thought it humorous that an Iraqi man would do their laundry for 5 US dollars and they were so disrespectful of that. I was sick. How disgusting our people must be to these people.

Classism is rife in our history. I'm researching a novel on Broome's history, back in the pearling days.

The British boat owners would send their white suits all the way to Singapore to be washed and pressed, and used Timorese people as slaves around the house. Led to all sorts of problems down the track.

@snood,
It sure is. He's running 7 wars, killing indiscriminately via drone murders, making back room deals with Monsanto, and bullying Britain about Brexit.

He is one powerful guy.

Obama makes Bush look like a Boy Scout.
