Not a CSI episode-Mutilated teen body teen fell from airplane?

Something very odd has happened in a very nice area south of Boston. A mutilated body of a 16-year old from NC was dropped on a lawn. No one could figure out how he got there - especially seeing he was just in NC the day before.

Now there is a remote possibility that he was hiding on a plane coming into Logan from NC. They think he may have climbed into the wheel well and upon approaching Boston, the landing gear went down and he was dropped. This is feasible as the area would be about where a plane approaching from NC would drop their landing gear.

@Linkat,
What a horrible story!

That poor family. They are so bewildered.

And so am I.

How do people stow away on planes with security being what it is?

Crazy!

It will be interesting to see if they are able to figure out what happened.

@boomerang,
I was reading around on this story and that really surprised me -- not only is it not terribly uncommon, but a fair amount of them survive! Something like 15-20%, but still.

@sozobe,
I'd love to know how anyone could survive the landing of a plane inside a wheel well. The fear alone added to the loss of oxygen would give a heart attack.

@Ragman,
Tried to find it back -- turned out it was from Linkat's original article.

Quote:
The FAA reports there have been 63 aircraft flights involved in wheel-well stowaways since 1996 where 60 people died and 12 survived. (Some of those flights had multiple people stowing away.) Last month a Russian teen survived a 50 minute, 300 km, flight in a turboprop aircraft, an Antonov An-24.

12 survived!!

I'd love to know, too. Maybe the plane never got really high?

I heard the kid was trying to avoid a Pat-Down of his "junk"at the security gate.

I remember reading many years ago how prisoners would attempt to do that.

I read that as a kid, and spent a good amount of time thinking about it, how dangerous it would be.

Poor kid, imagining how scary his last moments were.

Tragic.

You know what?

That kind of **** isn't funny when reading about someone's kid (or anyone) dying like that.

You too ragman.

@boomerang,
That is also a concern - you hear about people stowing away on planes, but yet we are checked pretty much naked or felt up to make sure we are not carrying anything a plane, but yet we continuously hear of stow aways.

I do hope the family gets some closure on this and at the very least gets to find out what happened.

@chai2,
The theory is that he froze to death and that is why is body would have been as intact as it was when it hit the ground.

@chai2,

That's right. It's always sad when a kid dies. On the other hand, if it were an old person, it would be hilarious. Or a clown.

@Linkat,
but not a real bright kid, if the story is true.

if one is to jump on a plane, you would want to at least pick one that had a chance of getting you back to the ground alive.

unless he was suiciding.

and even then, the question arises...

@Rockhead,
My thoughts precisely. Truly doubt it was suicide. Why not jump off a bridge if suicide was the goal?

If you're trying to get some place for free, why not find a less risky way to do it? Wonder what that airport crew had to deal with as they discovered this grizzly sight? Wonder what his parents had to deal with?

I've got some sympathy for those people who are less fortunate and who are so desperate that they steal or commit a fraud. Call me insensitive but I've got very little sympathy for someone who tries a stunt like this. What sort of chance of success did he expect? Why not just try to counterfeit a train ticket?

It may not have been a stupid stunt. It could have been an act of desperation. He was sixteen and may have been trying to run away from some trouble he had gotten into.

Oh his poor parents... It is really strange that Airport securities are supposed to be most strict among any other forms of travel, and such obvious breaches happent.

A similar incident was observed in Calcutta, India few years back.

2 teenage boys were found in the undercarriage of a plane flying from Bangalore to Calcutta. When the landing gear went down, one of the guys jumped and hit the marshy land on the side of the runway. He miraculously survived.

Other guy, who thought the first guy was dead, got scared and started shouting his name. Security officials were alerted due to the shouting and caught the boy. They also found the other guy unconscious a few yards away.

Funny thing was when they came back to their senses they regreted their decision to board the plane.

Not due to freaky fate they met or the illegal travel they performed ...

... but coz they thought the plane was flying to Varanasi!!!!

Absolutely Horrible!

And now it appears as if this is very likely what happened.

"Norfolk District Attorney William Keating cited evidence including a handprint in the wheel well, clothes strewn along the plane's flight path and an autopsy report indicating the teen fell "from a significant height.""

Great security if I can teen can get into the runway. Imagine some one that knew what they were doing could do?

@Linkat,
Yes, agreed and also it's an indicator of what act of desperation a terrorist could hide and do - such massive damage..if they desired.
