I am pleased that he was not killed. This makes it possible for the Iraqies to put him on trial.
Dubya and the gang are probably guzzling the bubbly this morning.
I wonder how it will effect the insurgency?
I hope it means that the fighting comes to an end, that our soldiers can come home, and that Iraq can be turned over to her people very soon.
Webb,
When you are accusing people of mass murder, don't forget just how many Iranians,Kuaitis, Kurds and Iraqis that Saddam killed.
So where are the mass graves filled by the current Administration?
They are just in your own warped, hate filled imagination.
I am just glad that this phase of the operation went so well and no one was hurt.

Statement Regarding Capture of Hussein
At approximately 7:15AM, I receieved word of the capture of Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein. This should essentially mark the end of the war and, hopefully the occupation.
Of course, this poses questions on several fronts. The first is what is the future of this page? This page was designed under the idea that the Afghani attacks and the Iraq War and occupation were part of a greater "War On Terror" that I believe I and many others in the "Anti-War/Anti-Imperialist" movement saw an attempt to start a new "Cold War". I believe there is a good chance that Bush will try and take on another "Rogue State"; Syria may be the next target, so there may be life in this site yet. The expansion into a portal will continue as planned, with a launch date of January 19th 2004.
Other ideas are being considered though; a Howard Dean 'blog, a development blog for New Patriot an idea for a computer game set in a future American Revolution, or an idea for a kind of MoveOn.org for Pennsylvania.
I've had fun developing this page, and working on it has allowed me an opportunity to develop new skills; I now know the basics of CSS, and have had opportunities to learn PHP, and parlay my existing Oracle and SQL skills into MySql. I believe these skills will prove useful later on sometime.
Let me reiterate that I am pleased at the capture, but actually fear for the future of the US and perhaps the World.
This is gonna earn Bush some MAJOR brownie points with the voters. Just as he planned it, right Pistoff!
This is a major turning point but it is not the end. Much now depends on who the US handels him. If we humiliate him than the whole thing may backfire.
Fedral, I cannot believe that the obscene activities of another can justify an ILLEGAL invasion on spurious grounds, the bombing of thousands of innocents, the destruction of homes, the seizure of massive oil reserves, introduction of a military dictatorship, fraudulent over-charging of taxpayers by the administration's pals and an ever-growing daily death and injury price being paid by our forces.
"hate filled imagination"? I am not sure that the families of those killed and injured ..... with more to come, feel that way?

It's a delicate situation, alright, and I hope it was planned for better than the post war operations. Delicate situations do not seem to be our forte.

I wonder what gave you that impression?
One leader down. One more to go. If both 'big' bosses are captured, the other leaders will lose some incentive to continue their terrorist activity - we hope. Especially since Saddam said he would fight to the end, and just gave up looking like a hobo. Those dead martyrs will come out from the grave and haunt Saddam for being such a chicken at heart.
Listening to teh BBC, where Chalabi is shooting off his mouth. I wonder if he's related to Bush?
I do hate to poop on the party, but.....Remember how Hussein had all those doubles...?
Looks like Joe Nation was right all along. Remember when the US entered Baghdad and everyone was asking where Saddam was?
Joe said....."Hiding under Iraq."
(I've been chuckling about that for six months.

)
Glad he was found, and glad it happened 11 months before the next election. The dust will have settled by then; if they'd found him next October, Bush would've won on a feel-good tide...
Things are NOT over in Iraq. Our very own safecracker mentioned he has to go to Iraq on Jan. 3. I may oppose the way the war is going, but it's a reality, and the troops are only doing their job. Illegal war or not, only time will settle that issue. Rhetoric will not change my mind about that. Blame Bush all you want, but those soldiers also need everyone's support, despite political feelings. Don't even bother getting into a comparison of Nazi war criminals who said at Nuremburg "We were only following orders." The US may be unfocused and misguided in this war, but they are not trying to eliminate a race of people, despite what John seems to think. I have extremely nebulous thoughts about the war, I always did. 9/11 deserved a response, IMO, but not necessarily the one that was carried out. Dubya has 'daddy' issues, and now he can say he captured Saddam at the family Christmas. My guess is they've had him for a bit, but chose to release the info now, for political reasons. How things go from here....my guess is there really is no plan.
It will be interesting to see what sort of legal process plays out. Very interesting...
