@Cycloptichorn,
Less so than regular, I grant you , but lotsa wannabes trying to make a name. Injuries still pile up in the preseason. Granted, more passion and intensity in regular season games.

@Ticomaya,

The NFL don't do "friendlies."

Well Tico--Cyclo disagrees with that. A friendly is a game where nothing is at stake involving prize money and where team strategies are not exposed. They are warm-ups and "getting to know you" affairs. A trip out.

And shirt exchanges are not that common in ordinary games. It's the shirts of star players that are sometimes requested by lesser players. It would probably take half an hour for NFL players to swap shirts and I daresay some of the line men are not keen on exposing their flesh.

Another thing I meant to ask is where does this silly term "rookie" come from. A player in a team has earned his right not to be continually called a derogatory term like that by microphone jocks. It got into the Ryder Cup commentaries with the Yanks. There are 17 and 18 year old here play for top clubs but nobody ever calls them rookies or even thinks of doing.

@Cycloptichorn,

Your division schedule is the most important factor, but there are often ties; in which case the overall win-loss breaks the tie. And even then there are ties, and we get Wild Card games the first week of the playoffs!

That's solved here by points difference. Millions of ££££s can rest on one goal.

IMHO, there should be 16 divisions on each conference.
Every team should play 15 games against other teams in its conference. That would be regular season, with no friendlies whatsoever.
At the end of the regular season, all division champs earn a spot to the playoffs, according to the overall finish. Team 1 faces team 16, team 3 faces team 15 and so on.
Then the conference champions face each other in the Super Bowl, for the League title.

@George,
Yeah! One team each. Smile

And every single one will have a ticket to the post-season.

They all end up c0vered in glory you mean. No sick as a parrot **** like we have to put up with. "You can win what's never been won". That's a Dylan line from It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleedin').

@spendius,
Correct!
No one can say they root for a team that didn't make the play-offs.
All winners!

The deal is done. Boston Red Sox (John Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino) now own Liverpool F.C. The team is currently in the relegation zone of the Premier League after the worst start to a season for a long time.

Looks like, per the BBC, that this potential deal is going to court. Perhaps there will some resolution on Friday. Perhaps not.

@realjohnboy,
Yeah--I heard that last night. I was going to post it but forgot.

I don't know what is being disputed. There are some Liverpool supporters come in the pub a few nights. They'll know.

But there's some "going into administration" threat looming. They owe £300 million or something. Which is not good when you're in the relegation zone and don't qualify for the Champion's League. And all the players are big-time hard nuts. Some of the footballers are as well.
