Yikes! Is this the same strain as the Spanish Flu of the 1900's? What happened to the DNA extracted from one of the early flu victims?

Yikes indeed. I don't have TV right now, NYT isn't covering it (that I have seen), I first saw this the other day on Yahoo's little headline news roundup. One link away was a perfectly horrible story about a 8-year-old boy in Colorado who complained of "a tummy ache" and died a few days later.

I went into full paranoia mode, E.G. had to talk me down. (sozlet was just sick, better now, was some sort of cold or flu, never took her to the doctor.)

I'm gonna go see what the latest is.

Ring-a-ring o' roses,

A pocket full of posies,

A-tishoo, a-tishoo!

We all fall down.

Mummy in the teapot,

Daddy in the cup,

Baby in the saucer,

We all jump up.

Ring-a-ring o' roses,

A pocket full of posies,

A-tishoo, a-tishoo!

We all fall down.

The cows are in the meadow,

Eating buttercups,

A-tishoo, a-tishoo!

We all jump up.

John, Smallpox? Oh, NO! Shocked I can barely see my vaccination scar now.

There is a poem called "My Mother Remembers the Spanish Flu" but I can't find it on the net.

As far as I know (and remember), every year such happens - and worldwide even more often.

(In France for instance, hospitals nearly collapsed last week due to too many real-influenza patients.
Real-flu, btw, starts here in Germany now as well - as every year.)

Interesting map, Walter. Red, white, and blue, no less. Looks as though Virginia and Florida are evenly matched.

Bi, It's terrible when three members of a family have the flu.

John, do you suppose that "tissue" is a spin off from the onomatopoeia for a sneeze? Very interesting.

There have been flus and there have been flus. No one has ever understood the pandemic flu of the 1900's. Antibiotics do NOT help one bit unless the flu produces an infection somewhere in the body. The sickest that I have ever been in my life was the result of the shot I took for the swine flu virus. Another non-event courtesy of Gerald Ford.

Ah, msolga. I'm not the least bit ill, and I smoke! but thank you, my dear.

but for those who are under the weather, here's a funny song:

I feel bad,
I feel bub,
Gee I wish that spring would come.
Cause I got a code in my nose,
I got a code in my nose.

Went to see the doctor,
Asked him what to do.
Lordy help the doctor,
Cause he then said I got one, too, soooooooo

We lay down,
Side by side.
I'm still here, but the doctor died.
And I've got a code in my nose..OHHHHHHHH
I've got a code in my nose. Razz

Soz, Sozlet will be fine. Just teach her that song. After all, you said she could sing before she could talk. <smile> and it's a misnomer that laughter is the best medicine--MUSIC is!

Very Happy Smile Laughing

I was particularly interested in this alarming news because I have always been fascinated with history mysteries, MsOlga. and because I was concerned for the children in the states shown on Walter's map, and, of course, elsewhere in the world.

I suggest we all head for New Orleans. There's no flu there! And the high today is 70 degrees...
