@Silverchild79,
We started this mess. There's no way out now. Sorry, America. Get used to it.

@Silverchild79,
The only thing that concerns me is that our experts say we cannot continue at the current troop levels past April 08. so if we're staying there we need to figure out how to sustain our force.

Maybe in 2008 for every platoon the Iraqi military puts into service we should withdrawal that many people. Leaving the size of force constant. The last two years of training should be enough of a stagger for experience.

I've had 3 close friends or family members who've been on the ground there and they say that 85% of people a honest hardworking people who understand what the US are trying to do and that 15% are radical and some of them are even violent.

If Iraq is going to be free it has to be the majority that rules, not the majority while the minority blow up marketplaces

@Silverchild79,
the 85%?

no they where Iraqi's, mostly in Baghdad. In fact a good friend of mine tells a story about a 6 hour gun battle they had with insurgents. When it was over a local citizen came out of his house (which was riddled with bullet holes from the fighting) and invited them in for something to drink.

a large portion of the Iraqi's don't want us there, but they don't want us to leave either. They understand that we're still necessary for the time being, and according to some estimates the insurgency will continue for another 5 years.

I think Lieberman has it right, we need to cut off the funding (2 million/month by his estimates) and training camps in Iran and Syria and Iraq will stabilize.
