WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has collected extensive information on the tactics, training and organization of antiwar demonstrators and has advised local law enforcement officials to report any suspicious activity at protests to its counterterrorism squads, according to interviews and a confidential bureau memorandum.

Hmmm......DPD Spy Files
Quote:

United States: Denver police 'spied' on citizens. Police in the southwestern US city of Denver confirm that their so-called "intelligence bureau" holds more than 3,400 secret surveillance files, including some on members of groups such as the Quakers and Amnesty International who were not known to have been involved in illegal activity.

The Denver Post news reported July 2 that it had obtained a copy of a June 28 report listing recommendations on how to deal with the files after the American Civil Liberties Union protested at the intrusions. A panel of three former judges recommended that people on their files should have 60 days to see what those reports say about them. The paper reported that the panel said that in order to protect the privacy and rights of association of the individuals named, the stored files on individuals and groups should not be released to the general public.

Individuals on the surveillance list should be allowed to see their files with other names removed. After 60 days, the files on 3,277 individuals and 208 groups should be destroyed, the panel decided.

But the ACLU has expressed new concerns. "The proposal to destroy the files is unacceptable," said Mark Silverstein of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has sued the city over the files. "They need to be preserved not only because there's a pending lawsuit, but because they are the documentation of a major case of police misconduct and ineptitude. The public has a right to a full accounting of what's in there."

911 just gave the government the excuse to do all this .Now the media and citizens just let it go for the sake of anti-terrorism.What is worse is what the government is doing that we don't know about.

My god yes Crazy----and they might also be watching that bachelor muslim living next door who pretends to be a model American but who is here illegally and who is actually trying to recruit any disenfranchised looney into acting for al Queda in it's next attack. We can sleep without fear because the FBI IS looking at the guy next door.

If Al-Queda can recruit people on U.S. soil then there is a problem. As for illegal aliens shouldn"t the great U.S. government in all it's power be preventing that.

Recent legislation, passed under the guise of the new "war on terrorism," severely challenges basic democratic founding principles - such as freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and prohibitions against illegal search and seizure.

Under the freedom of information act, AFSC secured hundreds of federal files detailing government surveillance projects and intelligence documents targeting US peace groups in the early 70s. Public exposure of the Pentagon papers, FBI files and other documents gave a glimpse of the vast extent of surveillance, record keeping and disruptive (and sometimes lethal) activity carried on by government intelligence agencies, from the CIA and FBI down to local police against large numbers of American citizens. The existence of the files came to light during a press conference Monday, held by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), where it was disclosed the Denver Police Department classified the 85-year old Nobel Peace prize-winning organization as "criminally extremist."
Quakers, perception, are the people here labeled "criminal extremist."

My God you're surely not so naive as to think they are not making a relentless effort are you? Jose Padillo is one of those but we don't know exactly when the recruitment started.

You might want to start blaming all the previous administrations, and specifically the state departments and the criminally negligent INS. This admininstration has tightened everything up because of the provisions of the Patriot Act but----I say again BUT------ there are already 10,000,000 illegal immigrants already here and maybe more.

Why???? Because we are naive suckers----the al Queda knows it and will do everything they can to take advantage of it.

If you're not here illegally and you are not breaking the law then you have absolutely nothing to worry about

Dys

I believe the Quakers are one of those religious groups that Blatham and Lola keep referring to as extremists-----They are anti-everything and are extreme in their views----right

They are hardly the guy next door----as a matter of fact if you want to make exclusion a crime----they fit the bill----try joining their organization. I doubt anyone here would pass the test.

The aggregate of all this simply totals to more Vietnam Era Vignettes... except now, they have Black Helicopters.
You get dragged into Ashcroft's office, you'll never be seen again.

I have no idea if Quakers are on Blatham/Lola's extremist list, but they are on the FBI extremist list.

For instance, the kids at Kent State committed nothing resembling a capital crime, yet they were killed.

Oh please spare us the conspiracy theories----is Ashcroft responsible for the "crop circles"----I'll bet you've heard those "black helicopters" don't make any noise huh----do the crews have funny little round heads with "big eyes" and long "knobby" fingers????? Jeeezz----some people spend way too much time "playing" video games.
