What is the average time that it takes for a man to go from penetration to orgasm?

However, your topic heading reads: "Sex: How long should it take?"

I think you are asking two different questions. Are we just talking about the male's orgasm or are we considering that a woman might have a stake in this question of time?

Ha, I bet you assumed I was being a chauvinistic pig, didn't you? Well, to dispel this notion, let me point to another thread I started at the same time I started this one, way back when, entitled, "Women and sex: how long should it take?" in which I asked for the female point of view. Ha! So there!

So does anyone have a real hours/minutes/seconds answer? It doesn't have to be exact, just an estimate of what you think is a good amount of time from insertion to penetration. I always felt that three average-length Led Zeppelin songs is a good amount of time for the regular, garden-variety boff.
There is no "average". Each human being is unique. There are many factors to be taken into account. There are differences that can be accounted for by age, state of health, amount of activity involved.
There is always an average...

I do remember that the Rolling Stone's Going Home was something like 14 minutes and 43 seconds... on occasion just about right. I also remember that Kicky doesn't like the Stones.

Still, geez, it can be a mere minute or, oh, an hour. OK, ok, maybe a half hour, given delay. Why this need to average?

Programming seems counter intuitive...
Please describe in 500 words or less why you feel you need to derive an average timing.

as a musician of sorts I can tell you that sex is differs according to the circumstance.

Sometimes Andante

Sometimes Allegro Con Brio

Sometimes in and out like a fiddlers elbow.

Am i the only one that thinks that some songs are like having sex?

There is a a song by Heart that I love(surprisringly) and it just starts off slow and keeps building to a big crescendo!
