Crazies like you would not understand that achievements that benefit the human race are achievements worthwhile.

Are you trying to be the master of the "Pregnant Pause" or "Pregnant Sentence" or something? Why can't you just come right out and say what you are alluding to.

What do you consider a major worthwhile achievement for the human race?

@Thomas,
i would say that leaving the surface of the planet and visiting another has to be the crowning achievement to date

Where DO you get these wild and absurd facts?

And, can you ever respond to something without calling people silly, crazy, insane etc. Perhaps you should spend less time on that and more time in trying to form a cohesive sentence.

You might wish to try reading a science book or two or even googling the key words "great die outs" for that matter.

The snow ball earth would be another nice key word for you to look up.

It not if but just when the next great die out will happen on earth.

It could be today or a hundred millions years there is no way of knowing.

And of course lessor dies outs happen more often by far.

The control of fire might come ahead but on the whole I agree with you.

You are all of the above as shown by your supporting the silly and impossible moon hoax theory.

A grown man thinking that tens of thousands of people could keep a secret like that for 40 plus years, and that even just trying to fake it would not be a million times harder then just landing on the moon and on and on we go.

Can't say that I'd agree. Getting to another planet is just engineering.

Fire, agriculture, metallurgy, calculus, scientific method, statistical analysis, antibiotics, dentistry....

Writing, mathematics, pottery, tools, sewing needle, agriculture, wheel to name a few.

These have all added significantly to the quality of life on earth.

Any voyage to the moon has added nothing of real value.

How did it benefit the planet or the people on it?

.

Everything in the world is just engineering however the first time mankind had travel to another world is one hell of a milestone in human history.

Why?

@Intrepid,
Why I think I had cover the WHY? my friend however the benefit is on the same order as a new born baby.

What benefit is it to a family or a tribe to welcome a new born?

In any case it is the beginning of the technology to be able to develop the resources of a whole solar system thousands of times greater then what we have on earth.

It will end up granting us one hell of a nice insurance policy when not if the earth turn once more highly unfriendly to human life at the same time.

Not true. At least, learning to get to the moon certainly provided a lot of real value. Materials science, anything that benefits from miniaturization, revolutionary medical technology, fireproofing, the list goes on and on.

The budget of the space program over ten years amounted to 5 cents per citizen per day.

i didn't say it benefited in any way, i said it was a crowning achievement, two different things in my book

@DrewDad,
Those things are only extensions of achievements already made.

@DrewDad,
Those benefits is spin off and are nice to have indeed.

Wars up to this point had been the major driving engine for technology and it nice to have another driving engine added to it.

Oh see Dr. Jones book the "Wizard WAR" for an example of how war drove technology in this case WW2.

You are correct. Two different things unrelated. I responded in light of other posts and should have differentiated your response. Sorry 'bout that.
