Schmidts of German Village . . . they started a bratwurst cart selling on Capitol Square and single-handedly reduced brat and hot dog prices by the vendors on the square. Imagine strolling out of your office on a nice spring day to have a Bahama Mama from a street vendor, and then sitting in the park in front of the State House.
sounds pretty heavenly to me <sigh> we used to love Schmidts. . .

I do love
Schmidts as well
Well, born, raised and educated in a small Westphalian town
I became a conscript in the biggest German travel agency of that time (the navy) and lived for nearly two years on and above the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean
Studied later in the Ruhr-district and lived there for a couple of years
Moved to the 'city of swords and trolley-busses' (Solingen in the Rhineland)
Stayed after these nearly ten years of exile in my birth-town again.
Moved after a short time there to my now hometown
where - after having lived in the towncenter - we now have our tents in a more touristic village (actually it's a spa/thermal bath), just opposite this building

Walter--Love the electric trolley! We have them in Seattle, too, but not as colorful as yours. We also have diesel buses and hybrids (run like trolleys or by diesel) and the waterfront streetcars, which were bought from Australia (Melbourne, I believe):
Oh, yeah: Born in New York City, grew up on Long Island (hated it), went to school in Upstate NY, moved to Eugene, Oregon, now live in Seattle...
I was born in The Windy City. ChiTown. Chicago, Illinois.

ossobuco wrote:I love all the photos, especially Fbaezer's. Was that Mexico City picture in the zona rosa? Annnnd, the little trattoria I had my dish of ossobuco was surely in that picture of Modena.... Trattoria da Omer, if that rings a bell.
Thanks, Osso.
First MC pic, not Zona Rosa, but Centro Histórico.
Last MC pic, well... Zona Rosa is behind those buildings.
Modena, perhaps you're referring to Trattoria da Ermes. That one I know.
No, not Trattoria da Ermes. Oh, well.
I enjoyed the bird's eye view of the rooftops of Modena. The two days I was there it was raining. So my pictures of the piazza at the duomo were filled with umbrellas...
I think it was that duomo that had the wonderful roseate marble lions guarding the steps...
There they are!! The day I was there they looked light pink...
Geez, look at the beautiful doorway, incredible.
That's a great picture, Diane.
I was born, raised, and work summers in Tucson, and I go to college in Grinnell, Iowa (halfway between Des Moines and Iowa City).
I thought I posted a comment about Laeknir's photos, really gorgeous, but it disappeared in the icy waters....
