I just checked ESPN.com hoping to find something from the Boss (not yet), but I did read NYY GM Cashman whining about not having had a chance to sign Clemens and believing that he really meant to retire. Cashman will always remember Clemens as a Yankee, he says, which is rather odd considering all the years he pitched from Boston. Whatever.
Of course, if he'd managed to sign Pettitte, none of this would've happened...
The hat he wore at the press conference was given to him as a Christmas present by his sons.
So thanks are due to: 1) the Yankees and Cashman and Steinbrenner for screwing the pooch with Pettitte; 2) Pettitte, for working Clemens over while on vacation; and 3) the family Clemens for closing the deal.
Most serendipitous.
What is Roger doing in that picture PD, is that a 'Chatty Andy' talking doll and Roger is activating him
I think he might be stroking his nipple...
I don't care what they do in the locker room as long as we get to the World Series.
a co-worker told me clemens' goal is to win 325 games (1 more than nolan ryan).
Wouldn't surprise me. I'm happy for the Astros and glad to see NYY look like fools, but I have to say Clemens is a piece of work. Announces his retirement before the season, so he receives accolades everywhere--even Fenway and from the Marlins during the World Series. Now he's back again.
Not the most graceful way to bow out, but Roger is Roger, I guess...
yeah, and don't 4get the orange hummer
It is all because of Pettitte - and he has always wanted to play with the Astros. There may be a little of the unconditional release as of the middle of December, if the Yankees didn't believe that Roger's retirement was a fact, Steinbrenner may have pull strings. But, as I said before, it is reflective of when he wanted to be with Nolan @ Houston at the beginning of his career. Nolan got some ridiculous offer to stay with the 'stros at that time (I believe it was either $1 mill or maybe less than that a year) and he went to the Rangers out of principle. Nolan always wanted to retire with the Astros.........
You know, the Angels have had a hell of an offseason.
Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Kelvim Escobar and Jose Guillen were all signed.
Sheesh, they're only a year off a world championship and they get all that...
Yeah, PD, but what in hell happened to them last year
Now I read that the Cubs will bid for Maddux, but not at the price his agent demands. I can accept him returning to his original team, since he clearly won't be in a Braves uniform next year.
Re Clemens and his Hummers. Can't he, like, buy one for his wife? Though I suppose it's always nicer to be given one...
roger's only making 5 mill this year -- he can't afford to buy a hummer.
Well, he does have all those kids. Some of the olders ones probably need Hummers, too...
All them New Yorkers all up in the air about a little hum job, I love it.......................
Steinbrenner continues to make innocuous statements about Clemens. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's the Boss trying to sound gracious.
We'll see how gracious he is if NYY starts badly and Clemens wins his first few starts for Houston!
Pudge wanted 4 years and $40 million from the Marlins.
He's being offered that by a land-based animal.
Wonder if it will be about the money, now that he's won a championship and cemented a HOF berth:
Rodriguez offered 4 and $40MM by...
It won't diminish his stature to me if he does; he's earned it.
It
will make me happy because the Cubs didn't get him.
albert pujols is going to arbitration, rejecting the cards' 5yr-$55mill offer (pretty ballsy for a guy who just turned 24!) he'll most likely get exactly what he wants -- his stats speak for themsleves.
Given the way money is thrown around, I think Pujols deserves it.
From what I can tell, Maddux still hasn't been signed. Of course, a lack of news coverage doesn't mean things aren't moving. For some reason, even though I know he won't pitch for Atlanta, I still really care where he winds up!
