@ossobuco,
Me, too. If I were to have a week in NYC I could probably see only this area and be very content.

Da Squinney is doing laundry, and then off to check tire pressure and get an oil change so she is properly prepared for a trip north.

(Can I still claim to be one that tends towards spontaneity? )

When my prince arrives or my ship comes in, I'm going to catch a plane or train or boat and visit the great bookstores that are left around the world. The very thought of the Strand, which I've never been to, having a nice italian cafe across the street, and that getting to them involves going through a farmers' market, make me swoon.
Some of our bookstores, Barnes & Noble I think,
have integral coffee shops with table service.

Occasionally, thay have authors attend and give lectures,
sometimes about their books, not always.
Among them were Jane Goodall, Barbara Feldon of Get Smart
and my favorite: Janine Turner of Northern Exposure.

@squinney,
Roars the Squinney!

Gotta map? or one of those car map thingies? Got a place to stay? If not a friend, think priceline or the YMCA on 63rd or, wait, there's one downtown too.. or ehBeth's Sailors' haven place, I forget the name but Walter has stayed there too.

You've never been to NYC? Man oh man, that makes me happypie for you to be going.

Spontaneity is golden..

@dlowan,
The time I took my mother back to Boston after my father died, the very same time I hadn't cottoned on that she was getting dementia full bore, seemingly getting it on that exact trip during our two day stop in New York, was the time I near dragged her to go to MOMA . We got there at 6:02 pm, closed at 6 PM. I can almost visualize the doors. Well, the doors then, it's been remodelled.

@OmSigDAVID,
Sorry to be snippy, David, that's my way! I'm sort of an old bookstore freak, and not much of a chain person.

Must re-gruntle; during the 1950s,
the Yellow Pages (fone book) ran a TV ad saying:
"Let your fingers do the walking."

David it's looking to be a compressed disc resting agsinst my sciatic nerve. It hurts all the time. An mri will confirm 100% but i don't have 1000.00 to spare. I'll tough it out.

I don 't know much about it, but maybe a hospital Emergency Room will help u out; coud be possible to take it from there.
I 'd consider it. Maybe there is a hospital Ombudsman ?
