Cold Sores

Reply Fri 28 May, 2010 06:17 am
I get cold sores. I get them on the inside of my lip, right where the smooth part of my mouth meets my lip. I tell you this because....

My nose is sore on one side. The nostril is swollen. Not visably but I can feel that it is swollen. I've felt inside and looked in side but there is nothing there. Then this morning, I notice that the back left side of my throat is kind of sore, raw feeling. Nothing is back there. Is it possible that I have a cold sore somewhere between my nose and my throat that would cause this?

I've had it happen before and it goes away after a few days. I'm not worried about it and it's not a big enough deal to go to the doctor over. But it's just weird.

Any thoughts?

@Bella Dea,
If they happen inside your mouth, those sound more like canker sores.

I also get ulcers on my tonsils, which sounds like the sore throat symptoms you're describing. Usually it only happens on one side at a time, and is very painful.

No idea about the nostril, though.

What are canker sores?

Canker sores, or aphthous ulcers, are ulcerations that occur inside the mouth along the mucosa. They are found on the inner cheeks and lower lip as well as on the tongue, palate, and the covering of the gums. Canker sores are small, round, and painful. They are gray in color with a distinct edge. They are not contagious and are caused by stress or trauma to the area.

What are herpes simplex infections?

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) can cause infections that affect the mouth, the face, the genitals, the skin, the buttocks, and the anal area. This article will concentrate on non-genital herpes. Many people acquire the virus and have no symptoms. For others, painful blisters appear near the area where the virus entered the body. Typically, the blisters heal completely but reappear at some point in the future when least expected (or desired). In between attacks, the virus resides deep in the roots of the nerves that supply the involved area. When herpes simplex lesions appear in their most common location, around the mouth and lips, people often refer to them as "cold sores" and "fever blisters."

Nope, they are cold sores. Make my lip swell up, get crusty, respond to Abreva.

I've had canker sores too and the things I get on my lip are not canker sores.

I got one too. they usually appear when i'm under stress. Another thing I think that dont help is too much coffee.
I get a tiny tube of cold sore cream from the supermarket or chemist. 15.00 - 20.00. You need to apply as soon as you feel the tingly feeling.

@DrewDad,
LOL

I know, I thought it was a canker sore too, the first time, until it started swelling up. I didn't think you could get them on the inside either. It's never a shallow sore. It's a raised, scabby, swollen sore. And it is in the same, or very near the same, spot every time.

It might be a subcutaneous cystic pimple.

I don't think it has anything to do with cold sores.

Ooooo, this conversation is making me squirm, those things are so painful. I get something like this only when I eat too much sugar. Only once, I had one inside my nose. Quitting smoking, eating chocolate instead.
