Excerpt from Hingehead article: Sayed said- "I was brought up a strict Muslim, but one day, I realised there was no God. Whenever I tell my sister or my mum that I am depressed, stressed or paranoid, they say it’s because I don’t pray or read the Koran enough

Nah Sayed mate, it's because you're an atheist, they're all jumpy, irritable and uptight..Smile

Contemplating this thought:

Quote:
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

@panzade,
I think that's true, but with some limitations. I doubt very much many will remember us no matter how virtuous a life one lives beyond one generation.

Just one generation; just your loved ones. I think that's how your family will remember you.

@panzade,
That's what I believe, and have purchased cremation services that covers me even if I'm in a foreign country. I already told my wife I want my ashes dropped in the Pacific Ocean - so I could keep traveling.

@panzade,
I've done a couple of transatlantic cruises, and even met Lindsay Hamilton, a professional singer from London. She has one of the best voices in the business. Even got a email from her yesterday.

While on the Constellation in '07 or '08, she had her own entertainment show and thought she was superb.
After the show, DH was in line to purchase her DVD, and she noticed I was on the side in a wheelchair. She left the sales table and came over to speak to me for a couple minutes while an associate of hers took over
What a kind person; I will never forget her thoughtfulness! Believe she was from London. Does anyone know of her or her wereabouts?

Seems she's a hit with ol' farts like us Very Happy

Is Katha having a little joke with us?
The Bible ALREADY says the things on her list are a no-no..Smile

War/Tyranny/Invasion- "Love your enemies" (Matt 5:44)

Slavery-"We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers..for murderers..for slave traders and liars.." (1 Tim 1:9)

Child cruelty- Jesus said:- " if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea" (Matt 18:6)

Wife beating/ Womens rights- "Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love.." (Ecc 9:9)

Stoning- Jesus rescues an adulteress-

Has Katha a hierarchy osso? Does she, and you, class some of them as more wrong than others?

The odd thing is that she wouldn't be here to spout her schtick if plenty of that lot had not gone on. It's just an affectation made affordable as a result of the extravagant productivity of modern machines. And the land she is standing on was won by war. And I bet she buys a range of products made in sweat shops in Asia, which are only not slavery by nomenclature, and prides herself on the bargains.

Perhps God could be faulted for not intervening before Satan could tempt Eve.

Oh yeah, that would make us puppets.

Few atheists are willing to accept, even as allegory, that the sin of Genesis chapter 3 was an usurping of God's right to set standards for his creation. Were that correctly understood, it would no longer be difficult to comprehend why time had to be allotted for mankind, under Satan's control, to prove their rebellion a folly. You and I might aver an over abundance of intervening time has elapsed. But we are not the timekeepers of this issue.

@panzade,
Atheists are not the only ones who fail to understand scripture.

This underscores a failing of nominal christianity which has no defense. As such, it is a straw man.

Atheists may well be the only ones who do understand scripture. That would certainly explain why believers are so hell bent to cut them off at the pass.
