What would be the problem with that? Is it that it offends the conceits of humans?

Life makes sense in the context of human living, if you let it. In trying to make the universe conform to our expectations, not so much.

@edgarblythe,
We are the only top predator mold that we know of. In evolutionary history, several top predators served their niche and were wiped out because they couldnt control theior environment like we.
If , in the universe, there exists a "top predator " model (I think probably that it is one of evolutions top ten ideas, so I wouldnt doubt it too much), it copuld take a path totally different than us.
The question is, are we the treminal top predator?

What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals . . .

@farmerman,
I thought dinasours went out because they couldn't control their eating habits.
Their reproductive rate couldn't keep up with the reproductive rate of the nutrient bed on which they fed and the consequences led to their reproductive faculties becoming weaker and weaker. The example is something we can learn from seeing as how intelligent we are.

Other explanations might be fanciful but serve the interests of companies which supply appetite satisfyers in that they allow us to Ignore the true explanation.

@edgarblythe,
What else can be expected when the picnic is organised by snotty-nosed, weepie-waily, humourless, baldy-headed old skinflints with no conversation, no brains and a surfeit of that sort of certainty which would bore the arse off a presbyterian's mangy cat. Cockroaches are attracted to that sort of social event like iron filings to a powerful electromagnet.
