That's some funny ****, Hinge.

I've known far too many people like the dude in the "I'm an atheist, debate me" shirt. One would have been too many for me, and i'll bet i've met a dozen or more. I am relieved to say that the majority of people i've met who have identified themselves as atheists really don't give a rat's ass.

@littlek,
Where I live this minority is no longer a minority. What I see is that atheist are in many cases more knowledgable about (any) religion then the religious themselfs, In some cases we are even able to judge followers of religion by their own rules as they don't abide by their own rules and laws. we make religious accountable for their actions.

I assure you they will be condemned to return their Atheist union cards. Judgment based on no facts has always been the privilege of believers, and shall remain so forevermore.

Thank the lord.

@longfun,
All Christians are accountable by the laws they impose upon themselves, you do them a favour by pointing out where they prove thier faith false on account of thier actions.

The scriptures themselves state that "faith without works are dead" and "there are manyshowing a form of godly devotion, but proving their faith false by their actions" I cant recall the chapter and verse from my head, but I prefer a straight talking Atheist to a nametag christian.

Keeping with the theme of the thread, what laws do Atheists impose upon themselves?

What does atheism stand for?

From this thread it looks to be something similar to what Bernard Shaw accused Frank Harris of in the preface to The Dark Lady of the Sonnets. An "antagonist rather than a fellow creature." A rather vacillating and uneasy state of mind instead of a proud one or, to put it another way, an attempt to hide a lack of any actual convictions by attacking and contradicting other people in preference to revealing anything significant about itself.

It is not significant that unsolicited doorknocking or telephone calls are annoying. They annoy most people. And they are not common events either.

What it is the atheist position on free love? That is the right of any female to choose any sexual partner she fancies at any time without reference to the past and to indulge in any activity with him or her or it for the sake of gratification or even of mere curiosity. The Christian has a settled position on that matter despite the many known falls from grace which are regretted afterwards. The Christian may sin but is ashamed of doing so. Why is an atheist not proud of such things? They exemplify the position of the atheist.

What is the atheist position on private property, nepotism, inheritances and inequality of wealth distribution? osso mentioned her "property". Is there any atheist society in which someone in osso's social position has any property other than personal items?

Does the atheist believe in authority and hierarchy? If so, how are they to be legitimised and reinforced.

How about organised prostitution? Or scientific research into human biology without any checks or limits. Anything that can be thought up is permissable.

What does an atheist think about restrictions on what is shown on television or on the stage or presented in literature?

What does an atheist think about narcotics? About caveat emptor.

What is the atheist position on seeking the protections of the law when the law is essentially a Christian artefact and constructed over hundreds of years by Christian authority. What use is it to pointedly refuse to swear on the Bible in a court when the same penalties apply for perjury irrespective of how oaths are sworn because they are derived from Christian tradition?

The thread is supposed to be about what it's like to be an atheist and all it is showing is that it consists of nothing other than a common hatred of religion. Which is a hiding place. A species of ignore like the one depicted in one of the photographs above.

It might easily be just a common ground of enjoying vituperative expressions with Christianity as a ready-made sitting-duck target to get it off on.

@spendius,
And the vituperations are borrowed from various role models. Most of them are as old as old gets in human terms.

@spendius,
Come on, spedi. You've been here from the outset. Quit trying to wrap "atheism" into a package and expect it to represent something as a greater whole.

@JPB,
I'm trying to get a handle on what positive things atheism brings to life. Attacking Christianity using selected, made up tales is no use to anybody.

What do atheists think of the respective spiritual enrichment to be had from the love of man for man and of love of man for woman?

Are you saying atheism doesn't represent anything at all except, growling, snarling and barking. It certainly doesn't bite.
