@Intrepid,

What churches would that be? I have never seen such a thing in any church I have ever been in. Nor, do I think it is proper for the Pastor, or anybody else, to question the believe of anybody who attends a service.

I never heard of such a thing in a church.

I have to add...that doesn't mean it don't happen

@Intrepid,

You seem to have bad memories from your 8-year-old year.

I have no "bad" memories of the year I attended Catholic Masses. The services were very interesting. They involved a lot of standing around and reciting rehearsed responses to what the priest said. He also told some kind of story every Mass about Catholics in other parts of the world which was supposed to teach us a moral lesson, sometimes about the power of faith, sometimes about generosity or other virtues. The whole thing felt very grown-up and sophisticated.

I miss the sense of belonging and community that the Church offered, and I only stopped going because I stopped believing in God. I had always accepted His existence as fact, and when my father called the facts into question, my mother was forced to admit she could not verify them.

I can't speak for Catholics as I am not one.

Thank you for that information. It is reassuring to know that if I ever did return to that faith I would not find you there.

It seems that you are not much older than the 8 years when you left.

I watched Animals by Ricky Gervais last night; brill. He is starting to seem an incredibly intelligent man who buries it deep under his comedy, this piece on the bible insightful, ludicrous, silly and hilarious at the same time.

The timing of his delivery is excellent, too.

"Oh by the way, if a snake comes and talks to you, he's a lying little **** . . ."

That boy is brilliant.

@hingehead,
Hey Boss, is this a regularly broadcast comedy show in your neck of the woods? I doubt that any network in the U.S. would have the balls to broadcast material such as that.

@Setanta,
Ricky Gervais "evolution counter theory " was shown over at HBO or Showtime a few years ago before he became popular in the US. Hes been in a number of movies since then and is an ensemble member in a network comedy show.

I was just over at youtube checking out Ricky Gervais videos, and it's the same as it is with most comedians, some good stuff, a little bit of ho-hum, and in his case, a lot of brilliant stuff. The cartoon segments i found were pretty funny--there's one in particular i'm going to try to find and post in this thread. I'd never stumbled across him before, but then, i don't watch the teevee very often.

It's just an exercise in how to make aggressive snarling sound socially acceptable in certain quarters by converting it into nervous, high-pitched, neurotic, stop-start sequences of squeals.

@Setanta,
Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you know Set, but Gervais is most famous for the original UK series of The Office, which was remade with American scripts and actors for your market. He also starred and wrote a series called Extras. Since then I think he's appeared in couple of American movies. The clip I showed is from a stand up show he toured a while ago that the Beeb must have video'd. He seems to pop up on the odd US and UK talk shows.

@hingehead,
Well, i'm not much of a television watcher, so although i've heard of "The Office," i've never seen an episode. From his accent, it took him to be a Digger. Is that so?
