This is another beer I got for Christmas, real depth of flavour, malt, fruit, liquorice, coffee and chocolate, just right for 10.45pm.

I found this article quite interesting.

Quote:
Eric Toft is on a mission to improve German beer - which is odd because he's an American.

All the same, Mr Toft, the head brewer of a tiny brewery in Bavaria, in the south of the country, politely preaches that Germany's beer-makers should be more adventurous.

In a nation very proud of its beer, he is an outsider who thinks the natives could do better.

@panzade,
Have you read the article. his new recipes have proven popular.

About ten years ago I would have sneered at any American trying to brew a decent pint. Not now though, there are some really good American beers, only from small breweries mind. The proprietor of my local beer shop thinks that American beers aren't subtle. A hoppy beer will be very hoppy, and a porter will be very porterish (is than an adjective?). It is what is says it is, and very much so.

It's the best of the macro brewed, American adjunct lagers, IMO.

Maybe Tico they've changed it since I was a kid. However I'll request members of the Greater Southwest Beer-Tasting Society to bring a few to our next tasting

However I suspect, much like the half-dozen Coors in our Official Fridge that we've been ignoring for about a year now…...

@dalehileman,
Be sure to compare it to Busch, Keystone, Milwaukee's Beast, and Natty Ice.

If I were sitting in a hot tub swilling brewskies, like the members of the Grater Southwest Beer-Tasting Society, I can think of no better beer than PBR. Is it one of the best beers in the world? No, clearly not ... but it's a good hot tub beer!

It's interesting Tico that you should so respond; because the GSBTS conducts most of its tastings in a hot tub

Budweiser, Mo 2.1/4.4; 4.3/2.1

Dos Equis (Amber?) beer, Mexico 2.6/0.9; 2.7/1.8

Pilsner Urquell, Czech 3.7/6.3; 5.0/4.0; 3.5/5.1; 3.0/6.2; 3.7/5.8; 3.1/5.0; 6.0/6.9; 3.2/6.4; 3.9/6.0; 4.6/6.6; 3.3/7.7; 7.0/4.8; 5.3/6.7; 6.2/6.0; 6.8/5.7; 3.8/4.7; 2.8/4.0; 3.8/4.0/2.8 (HU); 4.8/5.1; 4.6/6.6; 3.3/4.9; 3.7/5.3; 3.0/3.8; 3.6/4.3; 3.1/4.9

Although we seldom taste the American oldies, as you can see I did find a couple of Bud scorings that only emphasize the subjectivity of such comparisons. The first in each pair (performed on separate occasions) represents the scoring of our Recording Secretary and the second of his son, its reversals only emphasizing its incredible ipseity

On a scale where 3.0 is satisfactory, 5.0 excellent, and 10.0 impossible (like c the speed of light), not a single scoring of Pilsner Urquell drops below 3.0

Anyone interested in further scorings or who might like to join our unique Society, I am [email protected] and apparently don't care who knows it

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in snobbish beer appreciation that we forget that different beers are apropos for different situations.
After cutting the lawn a PBR is the perfect thirst quencher...just sayin'

@panzade,
Yes Pan, even the PBR, but only in sheer desperation

But first time ever, beer drinker described as snob

Only kidding Pan. You'll see that even Bud scored better than 4

Us snobs however do occasionally stoop, if only for the incredible contrast

Modelo beer, Mexico 2.0/2.0

In Prague it's available on draught and sold by the litre.

I'm sure Izzy that's the case. However times have changed and so I strongly suspect it's available here also in that form. I will query my No. 2 Son who is almost an expert in the field
