It is for this non-Brit.

I reel if someone hands me a chilled Guinness (Love Draught ... don't care for Extra Stout), but that's about where I draw the line on needing the brew to be celler temps. That being said, I can't say I've tried an IPA (or other ale) not chilled, so I will need to conduct my own taste tests.

And I'm definitely going to try the Ranger IPA ... thanks Pan!

I would reel if someone served me a chilled one, just the same as I would with any other ale, as probably about 75% of the flavour is surpressed, IMO.

Cool good. Cold bad.
Here in Germany (though we don't have long history and tradition in beer-drinking Wink ) all beers are drawn between 7° and 9°C (44.5° - 48°F), Weizen a bit cooler.

(And nearly all beers, bottled or from the tap, are non-pasteurised.)

Bending over to heft a 12-pack of Sierra Nevada at the grocery store I noticed a new IPA from New Belgium in Colorado.

I saw that, and I saw Lagunitas, and considered buying either one of them .... but in the end I got myself .....

@Ticomaya,
I finally tried a Fosters. I needed some beer to make a certain recipe's tortillas with (masa and ap flour + beer), and didn't want a whole carton. We'll see. I happen to despise New Mexico's texas like tortillas, big fatty puffy things, yaaack. I only needed a little bit of beer for the recipe so put it in a jar to fit, and drank the rest.

Anyway, I haven't made the tortillas yet (such a production) but liked the Fosters ok. (I read on some website that the kind of tortillas I like, thinner, are the kind made in Sonora, Mexico. What do I know, but that sounds right.

@Ticomaya,
Played a wine bar that had a cooler located conveniently behind the stage.
Saw a bottle of Dogfish Head 90 minute so I tried one. Wow!
Spectacular. Couldn't drink more than one though...way too rich.

@panzade,
I think it was in the NYer that I saw a whole long article on the Dogfish Head folks a few years ago now. Don't see those bottles in my local market.

@neologist,
Speaking of saving, Total Wine and More just opened a few stores in Washington state. The variety of spirits is tantalizing and the prices are wallet fattening. Be sure to check it out if one pops up in your area.

@panzade,
How convenient! I sampled some Dogfish 60 minute the other day. And thought ..... meh. Is the 90 minute that much better?

Sampling one of these. It was a Christmas present

Quite dark, pours well, not too frothy, a lot of body, it says coffee and chocolate notes on the bottle and I agree, bit like Mackeson.

@izzythepush,
The froth usually turns into solid beer!
