... a childhood friend found me at facebook tonight (haven't seen her in about 35 years)

That happened to me recently, too, ehBeth! Incredible. Surprised Very Happy My closest friend from high school, who I'd all but given up ever finding again! It's just wonderful to get those old friends back, isn't ?

Oh I want one of those fellas who do stuff like that! Wink Good on you, Doggy Person! You're a treasure. Very Happy

we're having snow flurries, which I'm quite pleased with

I like some snow on the ground for the New Year's Day walk. Makes it properly festive.

Sounds just perfect! (Though I can't understand this love of snow thing, myself. But I know folk like you & Roberta do .. so more of it, for both of you, I say!)

Ha! Wicked Doggie Person!

@OmSigDAVID,
don't they have google where you live, dave?

Dodgy are an English powerpop rock trio that rose to prominence during the Britpop era of the 1990s, best known for their hits "Staying Out For The Summer" (their debut hit that reached #19 in the UK on re-release in 1995), "If You're Thinking Of Me" (#11) and "Good Enough" (their biggest hit, reaching #4 in the UK chart). Their music has been compared to that of The Who and The Hollies and more generally, with the Northern Soul movement.

@dyslexia,

In my life-time I have never attended any xmas eve, new year's eve festivities. Nor have I ever had a desire to do so.

Yeah, I know, I'm exactly the same, dys. It's the strain of having to appear happy, happy, happy (when you're totally crapped off & just want to go home!) , that does one in, I think. Laughing

Here in Albuquerque we will probably hear the usual fireworks and gun-fire at the stroke of midnight. Sally dog will probably hide under the bed blankets until it quiets down.

Aw. Poor Sally dog! Poor critters who suffer so badly through all this. The Lost Dogs Home here collects heaps of dogs that have panicked & bolted on new years eve. Scares the living daylights outa them.

And may I take this opportunity to wish you & the lovely Diane (plus your entire critter menagerie, of course!) a gentle, peaceful, happy & healthy new year, dys. Best wishes flying to New Mexico as I type. Smile

@OmSigDAVID,
Well enjoy it, David. Sounds really good to me!
Are you going to have a really flash French meal, 3 courses, champagne & the lot?

My wishes that 2010 is a terrific year for you, David.

@OmSigDAVID,
Aw come on, David. Can we keep guns (etc) out of this, please? I'd really appreciate it if you would. This is a goodwill holiday thread! Very Happy

I don't think I've rung in the new year since I was a bartender -- ummm... 20 years ago!

I always worked on NYE and it would pay my rent for a couple of months -- more if we had a good crowd.

Ahh to be young, energetic and foul mouthed once again....

@msolga,
I'll probably read Mo a few chapters of "How To Steal a Dog" then when he nods off I'll read myself a few chapters of "Edgar Sawtelle" until I nod off.

We're heavy into dog stories right now, obviously.

Maybe I'll get another dog in 2010. That would be good.

OK I've put it off for long enough ... I'd better get out there & do my last minute shopping or it'll be too late. No idea of what the temperature is now & I don't want to. Just stinking hot. Revolting. Thank god for air conditioned cars!

@msolga,
I am going down to the beach.

Frankly, I'd rather stay home, or go somewhere cool for dinner.

I am buggered, and it's too damn HOT!!!

You have a nice evening planned, Msolga?

@dlowan,
It's quite funny to see you guys talking about heading to the beach.
At the moment here in England, it's around the 1 degree mark, and not to mention the middle of the night.
Hope you enjoy your new years.

We've had an earthquake this morning nearby (5.8) and it is raining as we speak - that's way too much excitement for us Californians: we're staying home
curled up in a blanket and probably won't make it to midnight. We always
watch the Times Square festivities in New York City; it's broadcast live which
means midnight there and 9:00 pm here - works out great!

Happy New Year to you MsOlga and everyone else too, of course!
May 2010 be your best year ever!

@AbbieMcKenley,
Thank you.

Same to you and yours...though it will doubtless be a hard one, I hope there is joy, too.
