@oristarA,
I was worried ori, you were somewhat overdue. I'm glad you made it back safely.

Typhoon Morakot slammed into China's eastern coast on Sunday just hours after nearly one million people were ordered to leave the area.

The typhoon, which inflicted death and destruction in Taiwan on Friday, forced more than 490,000 people in China's Zhejiang province and 480,000 in neighbouring Fujian to leave early Sunday.

The hurricane destroyed hundreds of homes and flooded thousands of hectares of farmland, and was responsible for the death of a four-year-old boy who was in a building that collapsed, officials said.

Morakot made landfall in Xiapu, a county in Fujian, carrying heavy rain and winds of up 119 km/h, according to an official at the China Meteorological Administration who refused to give his name or provide other details.

About 48,000 boats were ordered back to harbour by authorities in Fujian.

Local authorities in Zhejiang were forced to drain water from Tai Lake on the Yangtze River, according to reports on Chinese state-run television channel CCTV.

Nice to see you again.

I'd post some photos about the typhoon taken by me, but this forum doesn't grant the permission to upload pics... What a regret.

Why do you say that? I upload my photos every day.

Reyn's thread would be a great place to post them

@JTT,

Clearly, there is sometimes an implied imperative, Joe.

Right, thank you.

JTT wrote:
There can even be one with a sarcastic 'might'. I can't, right off, imagine how this situation could have reached the point of an implied imperative.

It didn't.

Oristar was curious why others viewed the use of “ought to” differently than you did. I commented that other native English speakers didn’t really see it differently… that we do use it in the same fashion as Oristar…but I gave a reason why someone might offer a different word choice.

I wrote:
If you can see the distinction, and can discern when an imperative is invoked, you’re well on the way to understanding our idioms and nuance.

@panzade,
I don't know what to say. I've used three different browsers in my comp and all of them cannot show the upload pic button in this forum. But they all work well in Chinese forums and American forums except this one. Smile

@oristarA,
do you upload the photo to a host first? like Image Shack; and then post it?

@oristarA,
Hzve you posted the photos on another forum, or a photo site, where we can look at them?

@Joeblow,
After reading your succinct explanation, I can see that we weren't far apart at all, Joe. I was overzealous or over-something. I apologize.

Accurately speaking, that is not uploading, but quoting images from other sites.

@panzade,
Hear, hear. But the Morakot has gone for almost two days since. And now the skies over my city is fairly fine, partly cloudy.

@oristarA,
A friend flew over my house and took a photo. It's in the middle of all the trees...the little house.

It's hot and humid today , as it will be until October

@oristarA,
This is odd. I can see it, so the format should not matter.
