@Rockhead,
A sweep would be nice. Good luck. I'll be rooting for the Royals.

@realjohnboy,
time to go to Holland...

Timmeh is pitching a pretty good game out west so far.

he's only given up a homer to slugger Travis Wood.

what? Wood is the pitcher?

oh my... Embarrassed

and it's over.

we are mediocre. average. middling. not even winners.

but for two days (monday is an off day) we are not losers...

how sad we've become since 1985.

Well hey, even you guys go back to being losers tomorrow, you can always cheer for the Buccos in solidarity.

I was born in St. Louis and have tons of family there, but I'm having a hard time not cheering for Pittsburgh in their 5-game set with St. Louis.

I think 1992 was Pittsburgh's last winning season.

@Kolyo,
we are keeping Ervin Santana. (unless it's a trick and we aren't)

I think they should sign him for 3 more years...

and we don't need Pence.

the schedule is doable. and I would be ok with trading for a real 2nd baseman...

crossing my royal fingers.

I like the Pirates OK.

Clint Hurdle grew up on my watch...

A whiff of Fall in the air at Fenway tonight. Great pitching, Great strategy. Great drama.

In the end the Sox came up a run short.

And the Rays filed out with a tenuous hold on first place.

I just wanted to add. This game illustrates quite clearly why the review is needed in baseball.

@panzade,

yup.
the ump was standing behind the catcher -- totally out of position to make the call, and admitted after the game he blew it...

@Region Philbis,
Absolutely. the base runner had the corner of the bag before the tag was applied. The ump's view had to have been obscured. I really liked this game. With this level of tension at the 2/3 mark of the season, it felt like a playoff.

@Region Philbis,
That picture says it all. Thanks for sharing. Let it not be lost that the mighty throw from the outfielder was one of the finest I've seen this decade.

The reversal of the decision to overturn the call won't occur. If the trend of a super-close race (and their respective places in it) continues as it seems to be, the impact of the blown call will increase. MLB has got change the rules...and at least make reviewing of calls at the plate reviewable to the head ump via multi-angle-vidcam...in real-time.

Speaking of this race...the 3-team-race may soon become a 4-team-race as the Yanks are starting to round into form with Mr Jeter and Mr. Soriano make their presence felt. Gotta love AL east and the drama.

What's the news of Jake Peavey and that potential trade? Lee's price from the Phillies is way to high, so he's been ruled out for the Sawx. And Garza already got traded. And SP Jess (?) Cain was ruled out.

Rays announcer pointed out why Fuld waved off his center fielder:
Quote:
Defensive replacement Sam Fuld misplayed Ryan Lavarnway's eighth-inning line drive into a double. Two batters later, the Rays left fielder had a chance to make up for it.

Fuld called off the center fielder on what would have been a game-tying sacrifice fly and threw out pinch runner Daniel Nava for an inning-ending double play that helped the Rays beat Boston 2-1 on Monday night and retake first place in the AL East.

"Off the bat, I knew I wanted that throw, and I knew it was going to be pretty close," said Fuld, who got so much into the throw that he tumbled over after releasing the ball, a move he called the "Fuld Flop."
