@Region Philbis,
I knew it was bad that Boston brought in Miller...everytime I see him come in he gives the game...sheesh...

They still have a chance...fingers crossed...

@XXSpadeMasterXX,

he's been reliable as a situational southpaw out of the 'pen.
he'd have been out of baseball by now if he'd insisted on being a starter...

@Region Philbis,
Thinking about a new category of pitcher...
Starter, short reliever, long reliever and then there's situational southpaw

@Ragman,
Quote:
long reliever

Do you guys remember back in the days of the Yanks dynasty...that great commodity that they had? I think his name was Ramiro Mendoza...?

The starters would blow up, or need long relief and he would fill in...I never understood why teams never embraced that and had one long reliever for their team the way that the Yanks did with him...

Because I looked over the stats, and they were not amazing or anything...but he played a huge part in their success...and it was a huge intangible...when his team was getting beat down...he ate the game for them, and saved the bullpen for the next day...

I have a lot of respect for someone like him, because he did not get credit, but he was the one taking it on the chin when the starters were pitching bad...

And he was not bad, for a long spot reliever...Now, it seems that teams will not even carry a solid mop-up guy to save the pen...

They go one or 2 innings each...

I think it is dumb...

@XXSpadeMasterXX,

some teams hold on to a "6th" starter that they use in that capacity --
someone who can go 5 innings and save the bullpen during a romp...

@XXSpadeMasterXX,
I call that type of micro-managing La Russa-ing. No matter what is going on in the game, he'll yank someone out, successful or not, and put this middle reliever in for a pro-scribed amount of time, wherein the closer comes in and does his thing.

In the good-old '70s-'80s Red Sawx days, that guy was (oh hell...I have to come back). I used to visibly shake in my boots when he was put in the game.

@XXSpadeMasterXX,
Ramiro Mendoza is, so far, the only player, since the times of the Babe, to win a World Series Ring both for the Yanks and for the Sox.

Adam Jones is going to be very good in 2013.
He has his eyes closed in his picture on Yahoo! Sports.
Last time he did, he enjoyed a hell of a season.

@fbaezer,
Mr. Green

I really hope so mate...I am upset that I missed the draft, because my team has too many holes and I am a bottom dweller in our league...

@fbaezer,
I think he's just squinting this year.

(At least this week.)

@Ticomaya,
He squints so he can have a glimpse at the ball, duh!

But a few years ago he was like The Who's "Tommy", he played by intuition.

---
Now seriously, the big trouble with Adam Jones is his bubble-gum habit. Twice I have seen him drop a fly ball because he's making a bubble-bomb in his mouth.
And both times he spoiled a quality start by Miguel "Mariachi" González.
