****. YES.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AjGMgZHfiQPk.eQ90rmyqDQ5nYcB?slug=ap-royals-brewerstrade

Today is the second best day of 2010, after my wedding day. This means the Brew Crew doesn't worry about Prince's or Rickie's contracts until next year. That five 20+ HR guys top the lineup. And our rotation is the 2nd or 3rd best in the NL.

If everyone stays healthy, the Brewers take the milquetoast NL Central in 2011. And then probably lose to Farmerman's Phils, again, but **** it, I just want to get back to the playoffs.

A moment of silence for Phil Cavaretta, who died last week:

Quote:
The first baseman and outfielder, who was the National League's Most Valuable Player and led the Cubs to their last World Series appearance in 1945, played his final 77 games for the White Sox an unidentified team.

Cavarretta holds the Cubs' record for single-season batting average by a left-handed hitter at .355 in his MVP season. He ranks in the top 10 in most offensive categories for the Cubs.

And this interesting tidbit:

Quote:
He was believed to have been the last living person to have played against Babe Ruth, in 1935.

Not sure when he would have faced Ruth, since they played in different leagues. Maybe in spring training. He was, however, probably the last person who played in three world series for the Cubs -- a feat that likely will never be repeated, if next season's team is any indication.

D'oh! Ruth played for the Boston Braves in 1935.

@joefromchicago,
It's always entertaining when Joe argues with himself.

@kuvasz,

it almost doesn't matter who they pitch 5th.
barring injury, those 4 will dominate the NL...

@Region Philbis,
Yeap. I can imagine opposing teams hitters coming into Philadelphia for a four game stand thinking "oh for three, oh for three, oh for three, oh for three."

You might imagine Phillies fans to be content, but on their premier fan blog, BeerLeaguer, they are complaining about Howard's loss of power last year, and Utley's four year batting average decline versus right hand pitchers.

an interesting read...

"In three years, I will get a vote for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The prospect is exciting. It’s also frightening.

I’d like to say I know how I’m going to vote, that I have a well-formed, airtight opinion on the candidacy of Rafael Palmeiro and Jeff Bagwell and every other player cocooned by performance-enhancing drug questions. I’ve spent days arguing with myself and others to help shape the proper way to handle the quandary.

Out of all that self-examination, I emerged with four schools of thought my colleagues in the Baseball Writers Association of America will fall into as they shape Hall of Fame elections for the next few decades. The four schools might provide insight into the thought processes of the voters – who is affected, what sort of logic affects them and whether it’s the proper tact to take."

Rays trade Garza to the Cubbies.
glad we won't be facing him 4-5 times this year.
he's a battler... and he spits.

Yanks sign RP Soriano
he will be mariano's 8th inning setter-upper (a step back for an excellent closer).
joba will either be relegated to mop-up or become tradeable bait...

@Region Philbis,
Wow. The team that's drafted the modern blueprint for small market teams has booted a bunch of talent and added a couple washups. I will miss half-heartedly rooting for the Rays.

@Gargamel,
the moves being made in Tampa are not those of a team intent on winning.

were I a fan, I would be very angry.

Manny and Johnny D on team that will play in both Yankee Stadium and Fenway
Park. The heckling should be classic.
