Marlins destroyed the Yankees in the first inning; scored 8 runs against Eovaldi, a former Marlin.
Can't believe Nori Aoki is leading the NL All-Star votes for right field.
Giancarlo Stanton?....or Aoki?
Stanton launched his Majors leading 24th homer off the second deck facade in right field. Second deck! And he's a right-hander!
You make the call.

NB The entire Royals 9 are leading the votes for the AL all star team...oh...except the Angel's Mike Trout in center field.
Come on Comish! Fix this!

@tsarstepan,
I think Ichiro will always have the record for the most slap hits in a career. He has power and can hit plenty of HRs but only in practice as he chooses to hit for avg at the expense of power. At 5ft 11 in, he has got the wiriest physique you'll ever see on a major league player.

All kidding aside, he's a hit machine...and used to be the stolen base king in his day...with 496 SB. I think his record is around 262 hits in one season (and more 200+ hit seasons for a career) is unassailable. His fielding in his younger days was Gold Glove level for around a decade. His fielding stats are off-the-charts - perhaps stats-wise, one of the greatest of all time.

"Ichiro is also the only player in major league history to have won an MVP, Rookie of the Year, Gold Glove Award, Silver Slugger Award, all while starting in the All-Star Game in the same season."

@Ragman,
Watching all the Marlins games this season I get a sense of his greatness. At 41 he's still a great ball player and fun to watch. He's on a pretty bad team but he gives it his all ...every game.

I just read that Yovani Gallardo is only the second Mexican starting pitcher to win more than one MLB postseason game in his career.
The other one is, of course, Fernando Valenzuela.

So, was Utley's take-out slide just a rough play, or was it dirty?

I don't think he intended to injure Tejada, let alone break his leg. How often do injuries occur during these kinds of plays?

Jung Ho Kang of the Pirates also got his leg broken three weeks earlier in take-out slide by the Cubs' Chris Coghlan.

@InfraBlue,
He clearly went towards Utley instead of towards the bag and it was a late slide. Was it dirty...no...but it would've been a lot better for all if he was pursuing the bag not the infielder. It'd be a fair guess he wasn't intending injury. This hard-nosed play has gone in since baseball began.

@Ragman,
Yeah, he said himself that he was trying to break up the double play, so tagging base wasn't the objective of his slide.
