@Sglass,
Ah Seaglass, Seaglass ....

We should keep this light & silly, that's what I think ... Smile

So on a light & silly note, I say: why not?

I should add (says she tactfully) that there are many, many other delightful people of the male gender on this board! I'd name them all but this would tie me to this computer for hours & hours .....! Very Happy

@Thomas,
Quote:
German women tend to come across to me as assertive, confrontational, and women's-lib-ish. Conversely, when I return to America after staying in Germany, American women tend to come across to me as girly and submissive.

So then, are German men more submissive?

This is a zero-sum game. If women are more assertive, men would have to be more accepting of abuse (or relationships would be one big conflict).

Like MsOlga, I can't really answer your question because I'm single.

No, no, Thomas. I said I'd never married an American or a European person. I have had some experience of Australians. But (thank the goddess! Wink ) we aren't discussing them here! Phew.

Either submissive or single. (Nods tragically.)

Bummer, msolga. And here I was getting ready to hit on you.

A Latvian, Sglass? They are the most docile husbands in the world. If you're not getting along with a Latvian, any tensions that may arise are almost certainly your fault.

It's the leg in the middle that usually causes the stumble. Wink

@JPB,
But how is a husband supposed to kick his wife with tied legs like that?

I didn't say I was married at the moment Thomas. Wink Razz

Ya know, I don't wish to sound terribly PC, but I really don't think you can define particular types of behavior by nationality.

@msolga,
No, you can't define it by nationality, but there are general trends, and they can differ between societies. Indeed, for what it's worth, I think I remember ehBeth observing a similar tendency towards more assertiveness among German women she met at the Toronto Goethe institute. But it's been a few years since we talked about it, so my memory may be fooling me.

For obvious reasons my 2 Cents wouldn't be worth two cents in this particular discussion, so I ain't a-gonna put 'em in. Except to yell indignantly that I am not 79 years old!!!. Evil or Very Mad

[Aside to sglass: to make a smiley, you can just type colon (Smile then a left-facing perenthesis, or bracket as the Brits call 'em ( ) ). When transcribed online, it'll come out a smiley. No spacebar use allowed, tho.]

@Merry Andrew,
I screwed up on the instructions of how to make a smiley. There should be no smiley after the word 'colon.' There should be this: ( : ).
