@Linkat,
We tried a poodle puppy for about four weeks.

I remain, as ever, an unregenerate cat person.

And, not to hijack the thread, we have investigated hamsters, guinea pigs, and rats. We then moved on to parakeets. We're now considering a simple terrarium for snails....

@DrewDad,
Oh we love cats too. And I have two of them. I just love to throw additional "trouble" into the mix. Those damn cats live the life of luxuary and I want them to appreciate how lazy, fat and happy they once were when this fur ball of trouble comes running in.

I had a friend who named his dog "Recipe." He said he just liked the sound of the word, but I was never quite comfortable with that. It's like naming your pet "Ingredient." One has to wonder what his intentions with this animal are.

the dog's name will reveal itself to you if you look really close at the pup and it's behavior. give the pup a few days to show it to you.

btw i named one of my kuvasz "kodi" because she looked like a kodiak bear cub.

if you don't want to name ther dog "bear," try "beer." that will always be a nice story to tell and besides just think about what the neighbors will think when you poke your head out the door and shout "beer, beer. where's my beer!"

@edgarblythe,
I figured - but I had to add the ending part because I thought you may continue the joke and I am easily confused.

@Linkat,
Name him "Dammit" - it's a great name for a dog...and he more than likely will suit it. AND the kids will love calling him...though your neighbors may comeplain..."COME HERE DAMMIT". "DAMMIT STOP CHEWING THAT SHOE" - you see - it's a fun name!

@Linkat,
Now that I know the breed for sure, that opens up name possibilities, based on the dog I watched for a month or two at a local park.

@edgarblythe,
Perhaps, wait a while to see the puppy's personality. My dad's adored hunting dog was named Carina (a name from some opera), my own adored Siberian Huskies were called Positron and Gamma Ray - and yes these are multisyllabic names, but those 2 were big Siberian wolves, so the names suited them.

See their personalities, how they respond, how your own family is most confortable, then decide. All good wishes to you, family, and new puppy Smile
